Packers' latest statement on Brett Favre.
Statement From The Green Bay Packers Organization
posted 7/11/08
"The Green Bay Packers are aware of the latest developments regarding Brett Favre. Brett earned and exercised the right to retire on his terms. We wanted him to return and welcomed him back on more than one occasion. Brett's press conference and subsequent conversations in the following weeks illustrated his commitment to retirement. (Translation: Ted Thompson is a douche bag.)
The finality of his decision to retire was accepted by the organization. At that point, the Green Bay Packers made the commitment to move forward with our football team. (Translation: "Douche bag": A piece of equipment used for douching (Websters). Ted Thompson is one.)
As a retired player, Brett has the option to apply for reinstatement with Commissioner Goodell. If that were to occur, he would become an active member of the Green Bay Packers.
(Translation: Brett would then be a BACK UP to Aaron Rogers.)
As always, the Packers will do what's right and in the best interest of the team. As with all Packers greats, Brett's legacy will always be celebrated by our fans and the organization, regardless of any change in his personal intentions. (Translation: "D-bag" - Urban Dictionary - abbreviation for "douche bag" used when someone is such a douche bag they simple aren't worth the time it takes you to say "douche". Ted Thompson is a d-bag.)
Brett and Deanna will always be a part of the Packers family."
So - turning away Brett Favre OR making him a back up to Aaron Rogers is 'what's right and in the best interest of the team'? (Translation: Ted Thompson is a double d-bag to infinity + 10.)
In another post, the Packers were quoted:
“We’ve communicated that to Brett, that we have since moved forward,” Thompson said. “At the same time, we’ve never said that there couldn’t be some role that he might play here. But I would understand his point that he would want to play.”
Favre, who led the Packers to a Super Bowl title after the 1996 season, held a tearful news conference to announce his retirement March 6. The Packers planned to begin the season with Aaron Rodgers as the starting quarterback. McCarthy said he and Thompson were in constant communication with Favre throughout the offseason. “Quite frankly, it’s a little gut-wrenching as an organization to go through it, and certainly for Mike and myself,” Thompson said. “This stuff hurts a lot of people. I mean, it hurts. I’m not talking about physically hurting, but the sensitivity. We understand where the fans are coming from. This is a hot-button issue that surpasses anything I’ve ever gone through.”
(Translation: "And yet I will ignore everything I just said above because I'm the GM and it's my team and I'm a dumb ass and it's my way or no way and I will jeopardize this franchise because of my controlling ego and ignore the fact, plain and simple, that Brett wants to play simply because 'we've moved on'. Whatever. I make the calls because I'm a douche bag. Period.")
