Passion = Truth? How Jeffrey James Francis Ircink Sees The World? I love when people are passionate about something. That surging of emotion is the one honest measure of what truth is. It's a truthful display of how a person really feels about something or someone at that particular moment. That passion IS truth.

MLB'er Ryan Braun is an ass.

I don't follow Milwaukee Brewer's baseball (it's my hometown, you know) so I have no right to comment on them. When I watch them they lose. I'll watch a few games in May when I'm home fishing 'cause my dad watches them. They made the playoffs last year for the first time since 1982 (when they went to the World Series and lost in 7 games against St. Louis). But inevitably as quickly as they're ahead a few games they end up in the toilet.

Braun made the all-star team this year. He's a great player. But he's an ass. Even my mother thinks so and her gut instincts are as honed as mine. Case in point, Braun recently made some strong comments about the Brewers' pitching - or lack thereof. Fine - he's a leader of the team and if he has some strong feelings I have no problem with him voicing them. Here's exactly what he said:

"I wish I got to make decisions like that," Braun said Sunday. "But I know he's trying to make our ballclub better. I know he understands the significance of making a move and making it soon." Braun also laid the team's recent struggles directly at the feet of the team's struggling pitching staff. "No matter who is in there, we have to find a way to throw the ball better for us to have success...I think when you're constantly behind in games, it's not easy and it's not fun. Their starting pitcher was clearly better than ours this series."

It was fairly pointed out by one of the coaches that the Brewer's could also use some more hitting at times.

So Braun mouths off about the pitching. My issue with him is he backed off his original comment. Softened it, as you will. This is why he's a ass:

"At times, I am emotional," Braun said. "I am passionate, and (my comments) derived from wanting to win. I definitely take full responsibility for that. That being said, me and Doug are cool. Everything is good. I have no issues with anybody. I apologized if I offended anybody in the organization. That clearly wasn't my intent. I wasn't trying to disrespect anybody. I wasn't trying to call anybody out."

Well then why did you make the comment in the first place? Ass. And a douche. My mother thinks he's an ass. I think he's an ass; therefore, he is...an ass.

Life is short. Ask Anaheim Angels' pitcher Nick Adenhart.

"It felt good to work out of some jams early," Adenhart said. "My curve ball was really working for me, and then my change came on later when I needed it."

Adenhart pitched a 6 inning no-hitter in a loss to the Athletics Thursday night. The loss wasn't his fault. Even the manager agreed. Adenhart pitched a great game.

Hours later, Nick Adenhart was "murdered", along with 2 other passengers, when his car was hit by a minivan that ran a red light. The other driver booked on three counts of vehicular manslaughter, suspician of drunk driving and hit-and-run. He was 22. His name is Andrew Gallo. His life is over.

So is Adenhart's. He was also 22. Life is short.

1,000 Post on PASSION = TRUTH! How 'bout 1.000 in the MLB playoffs for Milwaukee?

My 1,000 post on PASSION = TRUTH won't try and trump Post #999 below on the Milwaukee Brewers making it into the MLB playoffs for the first time since 1982. Yeh, I know going 1.000 as a winning percentage is a lot to ask, especially since the Brewers are underdogs.

Regardless...ask in your glory - but keep on it, Brew Crew! Good luck in the playoffs!

Brew Crew Lapping up the Suds of Victory. See ya in the National League Wildcard Playoffs!!!

First baseman Prince Fielder celebrates as the Milwaukee Brewers make their first playoff appearance since 1982. They squeaked in on the last day of their regular season by beating the Chicago Cubs (Cubs had already clinched our division) and - well, the Mets lost so we're in. We face the Phillies this Wednesday for the best of 5 series in the National League Wildcard playoffs.

Been a loooooooooong time. I was a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater when the Brew Crew was last in the playoffs. They lost in the World Series, 4-3, against the St. Louis Cardinals. We made a huge banner and climbed the tallest building on campus, Hyer Hall, to hang our artwork for the entire campus to see.

Here's more on the Brewers victory and some insight into the playoff series against Philly. For additional pix on the Brewers, click on READ MORE! Congratulations, Milwaukee Brewers, the City of Milwaukee and Wisconsin - my home diggs!!

(WAIT! There's more...)

PorchLight Annual Picnic = Bill's Team-14, Bruce's Team-12.

That's unofficial. I'm usually on Bruce's team but somehow I was passed over and one of the last guys picked (why does this happen every year). Bill suddenly figured out I hadn't been chosen. Geezuz. Anyway, I plan and organize the annual PL picnic (like the Christmas party) - Mar Vista Park was the place. California Chicken Cafe catered (we picked up and delivered). Starts at 1 p.m. so it's a half day...on a Friday. Leftover food I take home. Good times.

It's really not a "fun" event for me 'cause I'm competitive and I play to win. Screw the 12-year-old son of one our employees - I could care less if he struck out. Screw the women, too. And the guys who never play and can't hit for shit. Funny - I tagged a guy out at 2nd base who had clearly overshot and had his foot off the bag. The other team screamed. The runner admitted he was out. He was. "Cause I tagged him out.

I was 4 for 4, 3 singles and a double, 2 RBI's for sure and I think I scored twice. Not bad for the last guy chosen (bastards - there's no reason I SHOULD'VE been the last). I'm very sore - but I played in honor of the new Jets' QB, #4 Brett Favre, so there really shouldn't be any surprises that I whacked the ball all day.

Two prick Cubs fans charged with battery.

Here are the mug shots of the two goobers who shattered the jaw of a Brewers fan and punched his sister while attending the Brewers-Cubs game at Miller Park in Milwaukee.

Prosecutors have filed a count of substantial battery against Cubs fans Adam Miechle and Jerry Emert over an incident in which they beat up a Brewers fan following Tuesday night's game. If convicted, Emert and Miechle each face up to three-and-a-half years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines.

According to prosecutors, Emert and Miechle were on a bus with other Cubs fans. People on the bus exchanged insults with Brandon Feezor, a Brewers fan who was walking nearby. Apparently, Feezor threw a can at the bus, prompting the two Cubs dipsticks to break his jaw - and punch Feezor's sister in the face. I believe Feezor was charged with disorderly conduct.

Love those Cubs' fans. Intelligent. Give these guys a couple of fedoras and they look like they're part of Frank Nitti's hit squad. No good punks is what I say. That's right, punks.

Brewer Ryan Braun Named NL Rookie of the Year!

The Milwaukee Brewer's third baseman, Ryan Braun, was named the National League’s Rookie of the Year, announced by the Writers’ Association.

Braun edged out Colorado’s Troy Tulowitzki by just two votes, 128-126 - closest margin since the current voting format took effect in 1980. Braun led all National League rookies with 34 home runs despite playing only the last four months and he broke a Major League rookie record with a .634 slugging percentage.

Gotta admit - don't follow the Brewers anymore. When I was home in May they were leading the Cubs in their division by 7 games. That fizzled away slowly as the season went on. The last time I really paid attention was when they went to the World Series in 1982 and lost to St. Louis in seven games. Yount, Molitor, Cooper, Thomas, Vukovich (and don't forget - Bob Ueker in the press box). I remember a lot of those names.

By the way, that's the old Brewer logo. I like it better than their current one.

"Pitch Away to Bonds!"

Barry Bonds and the Giants are in Milwaukee this weekend and Bonds needs two HR's to beat Hank Aaron's record - a record Aaron set while he was with the Atlanta Braves. I say pitch away and let him walk all weekend. Aaron ended his career with the Milwaukee Brewers and he started his career with the Milwaukee Braves (the Braves moved to Atlanta). Why have him break Aaron's record IN Milwaukee (remember, I'm from WI)? Screw him - I don't even like Bonds.
