Passion = Truth? How Jeffrey James Francis Ircink Sees The World? I love when people are passionate about something. That surging of emotion is the one honest measure of what truth is. It's a truthful display of how a person really feels about something or someone at that particular moment. That passion IS truth.

My letter to Miley.

Everyone knows who Miley Cyrus is. And everyone is exploding after her performance on the MTV Video Music Awards the other night. Google it - I'm not gonna post it here. Watch it and you'll understand why the Universe is in an uproar.

I wanted to weigh in with my 2 cents in the form of a letter to Miley. Here it is:

Dear Miley,

I'm an actor/playwright/producer - small-time here in Milwaukee. 48 years old. I spent 12 years in Los Angeles so I'm familiar with "the industry". I'm savvy. And I'm not a prude. The world has seen Elvis, Madonna, Lady Gaga and dozens of other musicians who "shocked" the world in their own way. So your performance on the MTV VMA's is really nothing new - just someone else doing it. I've heard a few of your songs, seen a few clips of your television show, "Hannah Montana", know who your father is, but otherwise I'm not in your target market. However, I was your age once so I "get it". I get marketing and provocation and sex sells and all that shit.

I watched your performance from the VMA's online and I honestly had no issue with what you did  - you know, what everyone's talking about. I've watched the video for "We Can't Stop" so your performance on the VMA's came as no surprise.  Here's what I don't get - how many times do you have to stick your tongue out and simulate sex however many different ways? I'm looking at this now from a producer/director's mindset - theater, you know? When I saw your VMA performance, it was sexy - the song is catchy. But I thought - "overkill" and it drew my attention away from your song, music and your singing. I got bored. I'd seen it all - and I was no longer listening to the words and music.

Again - I'm not in your target market so my opinion holds little weight. I get it - I get "the show". It's a live performance. I know. Cut out half of the tongue wagging and simulated sexual moves and you've lost nothing.

Keep rockin'...

"Rollergirl". 2009.

4/10 limited edition print by Erin Frost that I purchased at the Seattle Erotic Arts Festival a couple years ago. Need to find a frame for this bad boy. Or bad girl, as it were.

Erin's website is here. Her site contains some nudity (really?). But it's art, so...

A nice compliment from a member of The Dramatists Guild of America.

"What I love about your work in this play, Jeff, is the fun, sexy, funny and ultimately very poignant writing. Congratulations, Jeff. Well done."

Gary Garrison, playwright, author, exec. director for Creative Affairs of The Dramatists Guild of America, artistic dir. and division head of playwriting for the Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing at the Tisch School of the Arts, New York, on the performance of my short play, "Pass the Salt, Please.", at the Summer Shorts Festival in Miami, May-June 2009.

(thanks, gary. that is a tremendous thing to say, especially coming from someone with your rep.)

Suzi McCoppin talks about eye sockets and anal sex.

In the article, "Bringing up the Rear: The truth about anal sex from a woman's point of view", which appears in the June issue of Playboy, columnist/actress Suzy McCoppin makes reference to Tristan Taormino's book, "The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women". Tristan states that if you add clitoral stimulation to anal penetration, it will blow your mind. "There are more nerve endings in the first part of the butt than in the back of the vagina."

To which Suzy replies: "Hey, Tristan, there are a lot of nerve endings in my eye socket. It doesn't mean I want a dick in there."

As an actress, Suzy appeared in an episode of Season 1 of Entourage, providing one highlight I will never forget (warning: nudity and language). No eye sockets to worry about here, Suzy.

Cherilynn Brooks. Director of "Pass the Salt, Please." for Erotic Shorts Festival in Seattle.

Cherilynn Brooks is directing my short play, "Pass the Salt, Please." at The Little Red Studio's Erotic Shorts Festival in Seattle, April 24-26, May 1-3. Coincidentally, the play will be performed at the opening night gala for the Seattle Erotic Art Festival on April 30. It's a private shin-dig for all the artists the night before that festival opens.

And now, a little bit about Director Cherilynn Brooks: Actor, screenwriter, singer, and songwriter, trained at the Cornish College of the Arts. She has worked with the world renowned Larry Pisoni and appeared in his production of CIRCUS OF FOOLS in 1998. She also appeared in VIA SATELLITE, and KATYDIDS in 1997 and starred as Emily in the premiere production of FRIED RICE AND KETCHUP which has since been published in THE BOOK OF ESTROGENIUS, 2000. Cherilynn made her film debut on BLOCK PARTY as the rocker Beth. She also writes her own music. One of her songs, SLIVER, was chosen to be the end credit song for BLOCK PARTY. Cherilynn co-wrote LEAVE IT, and also plays the lead Character, Trish. Her vocals were put to use once again in the theme song for LEAVE IT, Come Over Here. Her current project is co-writer on the feature length script, PRINCESS AND BUDDHA, in which she is attached to play Billy, the charming, but destructive grunge girl. PRINCESS AND BUDDHA was well received at the Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival where she read the part for Billy.

I'm excited. Kerry Christiansen, Managing Director at The Little Red Studio, says Cherilynn and the actors cast in my play are excellent. We shall see - as I'll be in attendance to see the show.

"PTSP." to perform at opening night of Seattle Erotic Art Festival!

"What is that a picture of? Is that a - it looks like....nooooo. It's a briefcase! Hahaha. Ha."

I've attended one erotic art exhibition and believe me, it's not a field trip for members of the Moral Majority, trust me.

So I just found out that my 'dirty little play', "Pass the Salt, Please." - which is already part of The Little Red Studio's (LRS) 2009 Erotic Shorts Festival, April 24-26 and May 1-3 - has been chosen from those 9 plays to perform on opening night of this year's Seattle Erotic Art Festival (SEAF). Is that awesome or what?
The day before SEAF officially opens to the public, "PTSP." will be performed by the actors from Little Red Studio festival for all the SEAF artists in attendance. More information coming on the run at The Little Red Studio AND if you just so happen to be in the Seattle area the first weekend in May, check out SEAF's website.

American Apparel, The Reverse Cowgirl and Sasha Grey.

I discovered the Reverse Cowgirl this weekend. No, not the sexual position. It's a blog written by Susannah Breslin who writes about everything porn, et all. She recently lauded American Apparel's new ad campaign featuring porn star, Sasha Grey - (as well as another porn star, Lauren Phoenix) distributed in a limited release to a couple websites, including Breslin's. There's a link to AA's site within that article. Anyway, AA has experienced a hefty hike in readership on the site (really) - how that's translating into business I'm not certain. Check out all AA's current models here.

Porn stars new to American Apparel ? Yes. But scantily clad woman are not. Here's a few articles of clothing that struck my fancy.

Mele in blue button-down Oxford...

...Ryan in micro-mesh...

...Genny in high-waisted zipper pants...

...and finally, Blue (left) in Amsterdam (with a friend). Should I stay or should I go? I'll let you click on READ MORE! if you'd like to take a look at Sasha Grey's posing - and I threw in a bonus AA ad for giggles.

I believe Sasha's advertising socks here. Really.

This - I'm not sure.

This isn't Sasha. What in all that is chaste IS that woman doing?

"Playboy" turns 55.

I've been subscribing to Playboy off and on for 20 some odd years. Enjoy the magazine. No, I can't throw them out (I'm referring to an old Playboy commercial). And yes I read the articles.

Well Playboy turns 55 this year and I just wanted to say Happy Birthday and congratulations to Hugh Hefner for coming up with such a grand idea. :)

One complaint. The centerfold spread seems to be shrinking every year. The January 2009 edition, 55th Anniversary Playmate, Dasha Astafieva, has all but 5 pages of pictures + centerfold. That's ridiculous. I've called Hef and personally told him this - well, I called his secretary. Mary, I think - she's been with him for 30 years or so. Had a buddy who used to work there and I still have Hef's office number. Shhh.

ABOVE: Miss April, Regina from Germany.

One other thing, all the Playmates from 2008 are previewed in the January 2009 issue because Hef will pick Playmate of the Year - 2008 soon. My best guess? It'll come down to Miss May - AJ Alexander or Miss April - Regina Deutinger. If I picked, Miss April would win. I'll also say that Miss July - Laura Croft and Miss September - Valerie Mason both have an onside chance.

(You'll have to google them guys - sorry.) Now can I please get back to reading the article on Norman Mailer???

Dick Martin of Rowan & Martin's "Laugh-In" fame passes in May.

Dan Rowan (left) and Dick Martin (right)

You've all seen the lists at the end of the year of celebrities who have passed away that year. I was sad to see that Dick Martin of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In fame had died in May of this year. I worked with Mr. Martin on the film, The Trial of Old Drum, a few years ago. We spoke briefly on set and I told him how much I was entertained by Laugh-In and applauded him and partner Dan Rowan (who preceeded Martin in death in 1987) on that groundbreaking series. Very nice man.

Incidentally, Dick was married to former 1966 May Playmate of the Month, actress Dolly Read, best known for her lead in Russ Meyer's Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. They were still married when he died. Here's Dolly in all her - well, part of her "glory".

Laugh-In was an American sketch comedy television program which ran for 140 episodes from January 22, 1968 to May 14, 1973. The title, Laugh-In, came out of events of the 1960s hippie culture, such as "love-ins" or "be-ins." These were terms that were, in turn, derived from "sit-ins," common in protests associated with civil rights and anti-war demonstrations of the time.

The show was characterized by a rapid-fire series of gags and sketches, many of which conveyed sexual innuendo or were politically charged. Rowan and Martin continued the exasperated straight man (Dan Rowan) and "dumb" guy (Dick Martin) act which they had established as nightclub comics.

Beside the regular "cast" on the weekly show, Laugh-In had celebrities drop by and do schtick, as well as musical groups. Check out this holiday clip.

Women Celebs I Love #5 - Terri Nunn of Berlin (@ The Canyon Club last night!).

FLASHBACK. 1983. The US Festival. A free, 3-day concert. 640,000 in attendance. Terri Nunn and Berlin performs on Day 2 with Los Lobos, Quarterflash, U2, Missing Persons, The Pretenders, Joe Walsh, Stevie Nicks and David Bowie. Their hits include: "The Metro", "No More Words", "Sex (I'm A...)", "Masquerade", and the #1 hit, "Take My Breath Away".

LAST NIGHT. Terri Nunn and her latest incarnation of Berlin perform at The Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, CA. Same place I saw Gordon Lightfoot last weekend and The Zombies in June. It's a helluva venue. Same Terri Nunn. Same songs + new ones. Same voice (actually, I thought she sounded better now). Same charm. Same everything. And I was there - as if 1983 were stretched out over 25 years (me with Terri above). Click on READ MORE!

(WAIT! There's more pictures of Terri, Berlin, a couple videos you won't wanna miss and shots of last night's show.)

Terri Nunn of Berlin fame epitomizes the ultimate rocker chick. Her swagger on stage - to me, her defining trait - is unmatched even by a guy. She was in full voice...honestly, I couldn't tell the difference between her voice in the 80's at Berlin's peak and last night. And the band was right on the money - just younger. Nunn embodies everything sexual and carries a confidence on stage like no other. Had I the invitation from Terri, I would've jumped on stage and made love to her in front of everyone. I'm totally fucking serious.

Here's a couple Youtube video links: "The Metro" in 1983 at Showtime at the Palace in San Fran. - back in the day. I have to laugh - watch the patrons and the bartenders dance. Yeh - that's the way EVERYONE danced back then, people. And "The Metro" today, at Hollywood Park earlier this year (catch out Terri's dress). You may wanna pause the Imeem jukebox on the upper right if you watch these. By the way, "The Metro's" my favorite, can't you tell?

When Berlin first made it big (1982-83) I was a freshman and sophomore in college (Terri's two years older than me). 'Course I remember it and enjoyed it, but I took their music for granted back in the day. Perhaps that's not uncommon - I was living in that moment. As I look back, there was great music in the 80's.

I met Greg and his wife, Sheldon, in line for a meet & greet with Teri. Very nice people. She's an actress from Cleveland and he's a sound dude in the industry from Seattle. Sheldon told me that I look like rocker Tommy Lee...my friend Nicole in Iowa has been saying that for years. Huh - looks and personality, I guess. I need to find a decent picture of Tommy Lee, I guess. Thanks for taking that shot of Terri and I, Greg!

With a glass of wine in hand, Terri was very gracious in signing CDS, posters and taking pictures after the show - as giving as she is on stage. She made a point to thank the audience for, if it weren't for them - you and me - she couldn't do what she loves to do...and that's perform.
She told the audience about her daughter whom she adopted from Russia; so when I met and talked to her, I related my high school buddy's experience of adopting two children from Russia (the 2nd child this year). The sparkle and love in Terri's eyes upon hearing my story made me realize what a special person she is. As a matter of fact, she dedicated, "Take My Breath Away" to a lady in the audience who just got the word that her adoption of a Russian orphan had been OK'd.

When Terri goes "acoustic", the shoes come off and stay off. This "Women Celebs I Love" piece has been a regular feature on PASSION = TRUTH; I originally began #5 Terri Nunn back in July but just never got back to it. Last night's concert was the impetus to get it finished.

Double vision Terri. Can it really get better than just one?

Commonplace in every concert, Terri jumps on the back of a security dude and sings amongst the audience.

A genuinely appreciative Terri Nunn. She's a perfect example of why I love musicians. They're real. It's the whole PASSION = TRUTH thing (like my blog). You know how they feel and where they stand. Yeh, you might think Keith Richards looks and acts like he thinks he's 22, but he can still play and there's no bullshit about him. He's the way he is. What you see is the truth. Same with Terri.

The book, Cherry Bomb: The Ultimate Guide To Becoming A Better Flirt, A Tougher Chick, And Hotter Girlfriend, And Living Life Like A Rock Star, hit the market recently. Author Carrie Borzillo-Vrenna has tips from such girl rockers as Blondie, The Runaways, Pat Benatar, Veruca Salt, Amy Winehouse and Terri. Here's the author and Nunn doing what rock chicks do, I guess.

Berlin today. If I haven't stated it directly, "I LOVE Teri Nunn"!

The original Berlin. In 2003 the members of Berlin's Love Life era lineup got together at the behest of VH1’s Bands Reunited show, resulting in phone conversations between Crawford (far left - main songwriter and ex-lover of Terri's) and Diamond that Crawford credits with inspiring him to begin writing again. Funny how their former manager said VH1 would never get them together (in-fighting) and that the biggest hurdle was getting Nunn and Crawford to agree - then getting Diamond to agree. Well, they did, and every band member was glad of it and couldn't believe how well they played and sounded after so many years of not playing together. Of all the bands featured on VH1's show, the Berlin segment was my favorite - re-inspiring me to their music.

Need someone to sleep with?

If you're single, there are nights when it would be nice to have someone next to you to snuggle with - at the very least. Eureka! Che magazine in Flanders (that's in Belgium) shot an ad campaign toting a "virtual sleeping" partner (see picture below). Though not on the retail market, I kinda like it.

Now, for something completely different (not really) that IS on the market, check out the ladies below.

You can go to this post for more information on the boudoir buddies above - I'm not sure which one I'd prefer (or if there are more choices). I suppose since one normally changes bedsheets, you could purchase both.

The nipple.

Geezuz...it's a nipple! No - things are not so slow around PASSION = TRUTH, that I'm left relegated to writing about female anatomy. Maybe it's because I'll soon be Up North in Wisconsin on my fishing trip - devoid of any females to look at (any worth mentioning, that is).

Anyway I'm trying to wrap my head around the whole concept of why, when the nipple makes it's appearance, suddenly "show's over". I mean, a woman can stand bare-breasted, covering her nipples with a couple fingers and everything's copacetic. Remove the fingers and BAM! - ya got porn...or at least an R rating in a movie.

It a fleshy protrusion with little bumps around it. What's the big deal? Someone please explain it to me.

"Pass the Salt, Please." is Semi-finalist for Asphalt Jungle Shorts IV in Ontario, Canada

And...that's as far as she got - which is still far, mind you. Just got the email this evening. "PTSP." made it to the final stages but not the final cut. That's cool. It's getting people's attention and that's what matters. They're actually going to keep the play for possible use in another event or consideration in Asphalt Jungle Shorts V.

"Pass the Salt, Please.", is a 10-minute play, chosen BEST OF SHOW at UNcover: An Art Exhibition with An Erotic Vibe, Cedar Rapids, IA, March 2007. It's LA premiere was at the grand re-opening of Drake's Erotica Emporium on Melrose in West Hollywood in August 2007.

The premise of the play is this: what would happen if the dinner conversation of a married couple in their mid to late 50’s resembled the script pages of a scene in a pornographic film? As a man and woman catch up on the day’s events, their banter morphs from “ho-hum” to “whoop-eee!” – without missing a “bite”. The scene reflects the state of sex in the America of the feminine mystique, as viewed by feminist Betty Friedan.
