Passion = Truth? How Jeffrey James Francis Ircink Sees The World? I love when people are passionate about something. That surging of emotion is the one honest measure of what truth is. It's a truthful display of how a person really feels about something or someone at that particular moment. That passion IS truth.

"Billy Balfoor Wants An Apology" rehearsals in Sydney!

Steve Warwick (sitting) and Chris Turner rehearse "Billy Balfoor Wants An Apology", my 10-minute short which runs February 16-20 at Newtown Theatre in Sydney, Australia as part of Short & Sweet/Sydney, The Biggest Little Play Festival in the World.

"BBWAA" is the third act of the full-length play, "How To Kill A Boy". Fifteen years after Laird Clazerbak took up temporary residence at the home of Billy Balfoor ("the most eviliest boy on the planet") and his mother, Billy somehow manages to track Laird down, kidnap and hold him bound and gagged in an abandoned warehouse. Why? Revenge - but all Billy really wants is an apology. Who’s gonna bend first? Warwick and Turner play Laird and Billy (respectively).

For more information on the play, click here. Click here for more details on Short & Sweet/Sydney.

Good Jeff. Bad Jeff.

This is a promotional/marketing short film I shot with a couple friends to introduce my latest full-length play, HOW TO KILL A BOY. I plan to go viral (YouYube, my blogs, Facebook) in August and see what happens. Maybe no one will watch it. Or maybe everyone will watch it and it'll become an Internet hit.

The real motivation behind creating this (it was free) was that I wanted a carrot to dangle in front of artistic directors and literary managers of theaters in the hopes that they be persuaded into allowing me to send them the full play instead of a 20-page sample OR that theaters might forego their rule of taking submissions only from literary agents.

Jacaranda's in Culver City, Cali.

LAIRD
It was May - last year – in the evening.
(Beat)
I should’ve paid closer attention to the weather. The jacaranda’s are typically in full bloom that time of year, permeating the air with...well, with the fragrance of jacaranda. But not that day. That day there was an unfamiliar odor in the air – an unpleasant one at that. I’m certain it was an omen of things to come.
- excerpt from Jeffrey James Ircink's newest play...which he will announce in August 2009

Origami No. 17. "Two Men"...a song.

I wrote this song for inclusion in my latest full-length play. The first verse includes the exact lyrics I created and sang as a kid - then I just expanded the song from that point. It has nothing to do with the dark comedy I'm writing - but it does provide some levity between the protagonist and the individual he's butting heads with. I suppose it's sort of hard to appreciate it with the melody I have in my head, but...put your own tune to it and see how you like it.

I will say that it's supposed to be in the vein of the songs featured in the hit movie, "Juno".

“Two Men”

Two men
Livin’ in
A little house
By the falls
Two men livin’ in
A little house by the falls
Making dolls

Oh-h,
two dolls
Cornhusk dolls
One for each
Charge a quarter a piece
Two men
Making dolls
Cornhusk dolls just a quarter apiece.

(scat break – singing)

makin’ dolls
tens of thousands of cornhusk dolls
price arisin’ – 50 bucks, you see.
That little house is a’buzzin’ with all sorts of glee
Millionaires
A bigger house
by the falls and their million dollar dolls.

Two men
No more corn
And No more cornhusk dolls
(had to sell and move back to that small house-by-the-falls)
no more corn
no more dolls
If you were in their shoes
what would you do?

Straw dolls.
Outta straw.
The two men found a way
to keep their million dollar ways going strong
Straw dolls
diversified
The story goes on
Nothing you ain’t heard before…

Two men
Livin’ in
A little house
By the falls
Two men livin’ in
A little house by the falls
Making dolls

Origami is sort of my catchword for a featured blog entry that highlights my original writings - could be an excerpt from one of my plays, a poem, a song, a rant, a rave, a cursing, etc. Origami is the art of folding paper (the word is of Japanese origin). So, within the folds of this particular blog feature/post you may find something really beautiful, meaningful or poignant.
