Passion = Truth? How Jeffrey James Francis Ircink Sees The World? I love when people are passionate about something. That surging of emotion is the one honest measure of what truth is. It's a truthful display of how a person really feels about something or someone at that particular moment. That passion IS truth.

Jeff Ircink's golfing tip #1.

Don't take your eye off the ball.

We just returned from our annual walleye fishing trip up in Lake Tomahawk, WI. It's the only time I golf. Got out twice and improved each day. I still suck. But the best part of my game is at the tee. Well...this shot isn't a good example. But I redeemed myself. You gotta watch the whole video - I'm last.

FB users click here. Golfers in order: Bruce Hranicka, Dave Hranicka (brothers), Jason Ircink (my brother), Uncle Fran Ircink (lefty, dad's youngest brother), and then me. Dad doesn't golf.

A Tiger's Tale.

Whatdaya know. Tiger Woods is NOT a god. 3 things we learned from Tiger's "indiscretions":

1. He's human. And perhaps athletes shouldn't be referred to as "role models".

2. How sincere were these women regarding their affections for Woods? I mean, if it were Joe Blow, would these women be airing their dirty laundry on national television?

3. Tiger may be a smart golfer. But he's a dumb guy. Given his persona and public image, to even flirt with the idea of having an affair proves he's as dumb as the rest of us.

4. The media sucks. I've stated this numerous times on my blog. It's become a mantra, of sorts. As if there were no other news to report - sports or otherwise. This'll be pummeled into our heads until Woods' popularity ratings drop to zero. Personally, a person's private life is his/her private life, regardless if you're a public figure (elected government officials are my one exception). Those who think otherwise are losers.

5. People are pathetic. If you watch TV or spend any time on the Internet, I'll admit it's hard to escape, but this entire affair reinforces how strong celebrity obsession is. Personally, I haven't paid any attention to it. 'Cause I DON'T suck. I'm too busy obsessing over Brett Favre and Mel Gibson to care.

6. Corporate America sucks. The reliance on celebrity testimonials should serve to teach Madison Avenue a lesson: pay millions to have Tiger Woods hawk Nike and Gatorade products and you pay for his baggage as well.

Sean McColitas hosts the 3rd Annual Scottish Cup!

My first full day back in Wisconsin and I hit the boards running with a very fun acting job - MC of the 3rd Annual Scottish Cup. It was started by my cousin SCOTT Schmidt and Ryan ISHerwood. Get it? SCOTT and ISH? Bastards.

Anyway, we had a piper for the morning session of 18 holes at Edgewood and I performed solo during the 2nd 18 holes at Morningside - both in Big Ben near my hometown. Perfect day for golfing. Like the tee? "Ted Thompson (Green Bay Packer GM) ruined my Christmas." My brother and I each got one for Christmas 2008. TT is a bastard.

#79 - "Grace Notes from a Bohemian in Wanderlust." Hacking up the golf course Up North.

During my May fishing trip back home in Wisconsin, we usually try and get out golfing one day. Plum Lake is a gorgeous course - with an even more gorgeous clubhouse with a view of the lake. Click READ MORE! for a few more exciting shots on the links.

Getting ready for the next tee shot. Jawing more like it.

Me, Uncle Fran (my dad's youngest brother) and my brother, Jason.

Me teeing'er off. I've been told by regular golfers that my form is excellent.

My game...isn't the best. But whatdaya expect when I golf once a year. However, I took 15 strokes off last year's 9 holes - ending the round with a 55. I'll take it.

Have'n a few after our game. Bruce Hranicka (Dave's brother), Lucas Hranica (Dave's oldest), Uncle Fran, Dave Hranicka and Jason
Look for my continued posts, "Grace Notes from a Bohemian in Wanderlust", and my May trip back to the Midwest.

Brett Favre IS just a regular guy.

(Saw this story online - it was in an Iowa newspaper. Thought is was a good read - whether you're a fan of Favre's or not.)

Favre's hospitality impresses local pair, Custom golf cart will eventually be sold to benefit foundation
By Jim Leitner TH sports editor

Scott Harris (left) poses with Brett Favre in a golf cart he delivered to the Green Bay Packers star quarterback last week.

For most of the 13-hour drive South, Scott Harris and Bob Leytem wondered what kind of experience they would have at their final destination.

Harris, who operates Harris Golf Cars in Peosta, Iowa, had a $9,000 custom-built golf cart on his trailer to be delivered to Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre in Hattiesburg, Miss. Leytem, his friend and the owner of the Dog House Lounge in Dubuque, went along to keep him company. Would they meet the fun-loving, personable guy they see on TV every Sunday? Or would someone else show up at the gate to Favre's ranch and coldly show them where to drop off the cart.

"You're always kind of nervous when you're going to meet someone you look up to, because you're afraid to be disappointed," Harris said. "The last thing you want is for the guy to be a jerk, because it blows your whole opinion of him."

It didn't take long for their nervousness to disappear.

Favre not only welcomed the two onto his 450-acre property, he gave them the grand tour. For more than two hours, the trio chatted as if long-lost high school buddies. "What a friendly guy," Leytem said. "He's got to be one of the nicest people I've ever met. The whole time we were down there, he made us feel really comfortable being around him. I was half-expecting some guy to show up at the gate and say, 'Put it here, boys. See ya later.' But he was awesome. It's definitely something I'll never forget."

(Wait! There's more...)

Harris' cousin, John Schneider, serves as the Packers' personnel analyst to the general manager and set up a meeting between Favre and Harris toward the end of the NFL season. Favre wanted a custom-built, camouflage golf cart to ride around his property. Harris considered it an appropriate vehicle for the immaculately manicured grounds located just outside of Hattiesburg, which is located an hour north of New Orleans.

"You would have thought you were at Augusta National," Harris said of Favre's property. "There were no weeds anywhere, there were all these new trees . . . it was just unbelievable. "Even the three big machine sheds he has are immaculate. You could eat off the floor. There are a lot of golf course superintendents around the country who would love to have the equipment Brett has."

But the tour of Brett Favre's property paled in comparison to the two hours Harris and Leytem spent with him. The Packers quarterback talked about a wide range of subjects, ranging from his athletic experiences (he actually dreamed of a Major League Baseball career before starting as a freshman quarterback at Southern Mississippi) to his wife and daughters to his love of the outdoors. Favre and his brother-in-law take care of the property themselves.

"He's just a genuine good guy," Harris said. "He looks you straight in the eye, and he'll tell you a story with that little grin of his. What you see of him on TV? That's exactly the way he is. Here's probably the greatest quarterback in NFL history, and he's telling you stories you can relate to. He's just a down-to-Earth, genuine good guy."

Favre plans to use the golf cart for one year, then exchange it for another one. The cart will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to Favre's foundation. Harris also plans to make a donation to the foundation for every custom golf cart he sells back in Peosta. Favre, in turn, agreed to write personal letters of thanks to Harris' customers who purchase carts.
