Passion = Truth? How Jeffrey James Francis Ircink Sees The World? I love when people are passionate about something. That surging of emotion is the one honest measure of what truth is. It's a truthful display of how a person really feels about something or someone at that particular moment. That passion IS truth.

Reprint of May Post - Romeo & Juliet

(In the spirit of today's holiday, I thought I'd reprint this from my May 2007 trip to New York City.)

Ahh...R & J. Those crazy kids. This is outside the Shakespeare Theater in Central Park. Tragic love or true love? You decide which is right...and which is an illusion. Anyway...yes - love. Good love. Bad love. Love-in's. Unrequited love. Can't love with'em and ya can't love without'em. Can't buy me love (Beatles). Love surrounds me (Dennis Wilson). Love the one you're with (CSNY). Love Gun (KISS). Love is real (Lennon). Love hurts (Nazareth). Love stinks (J. Giles). It breaks your heart and will drive any person mad.

Ain't love grand?

Pix from New York City

I originally posted a few pictures from the NYC trip (see May 25, 31 and June 5) and I said I'd post more. Well - here they are ('cause I knew you were foaming at the mouth to see these...am I right, huh, huh?).

Tulips in the Shakespeare Gardens - 4 acres reserved for "quiet time alone".

View of The Great Lawn from the highest point of Belvedere Castle.

Angel of the Waters Fountain (Bethesda Angel - 1868) - South End of Central Park.

Tony Clements and I go way back to high school in Waterford. We worked on the school paper - he used to have layout parties at his house (he was editor his senior year, then I replaced him the next year). Kick ass layout parties (that's all I can really say - what's the statute of limitations on....oh, forget it).

Great actor, singer, musician, musical theater playwright. He and his partner, Rob, live on the Upper West Side - two blocks from Central Park, and Tony read in Stan's Addiction. I stayed with he and Rob for a couple days and they showed me around the city. Great tour guides. Tony and I sorta stayed in touch and kind of knew what we were each sorta doing - he was with one of the National Tours of Mama Mia for four years and doing other acting stuff in Milwaukee and I was in Iowa acting there. Anyway, we hooked up again and I'm very happy. There are people in your life that, if you never saw them again, no biggie. And there are people you wish you could see more often. Tony's one of those people.

So is Michael. Me with Michael Harrington (center), director of Stan's Addiction and John having a Guinness at some Irish pub. I met Mike back in Cedar Rapids when I first got into theatre. I think he was a freshman in high school at the time, but already a fantastic tapper and dancer. He just received his Masters at NYU in directing. Good man. Fun guy. And I believe he's gonna be a helluva director. It had been a few years since we had talked as well (before this play reading came up). So, I'm glad the play brought us back together. Thank you, Michael.
The cast of Stan's Addiction outside the Manhattan Theatre Source in Greenwich Village (the East Village). The woman is Elena Shaddow - Mike's wife, who is an up and coming Broadway theatre actress and singer, having starred or performed in several Broadway shows, and most recently the National Tour of The Light in the Piazza. I didn't get to chat with her as much as I would've liked but a nice girl.

My theater debut in Cedar Rapids at the Paramount Theatre for Follies...I had a picture taken in my tux in this exact same pose. That was 13 years ago - I haven't really changed much either. Huh.

Tony and Rob in Times Square .
Times Square. Bright. Crowded. Loud. Nuts. Chaotic. Exciting. Busy. It's a sight, that's for sure. But I could never stay down there long.

The Mall & Literary Walk in Central Park

Central Park was fantastic. I spent 6 hours there on a Saturday, rested 3 times and didn't quite see everything. You've probably seen this picture taken in winter. I'll post several other pictures here, and I'll also make all the NYC trip pix available on http://www.shutterfly.com/. The city was a blast and I'll give you an update on my play reading of Stan's Addiction (which went very well), Tony and Rob, Michael and the Bleeker Street Irregular Theatre Company and all my adventures.

Not sure if this is Diprock or Greyshot Arch in Central Park. Too busy trying to capture this perspective that I didn't get a picture of the outside of the arch. Oh well...there are many arches in the park. And this...is one of them.

Ahh...R & J - those crazy kids. This is outside the Shake-speare Theater in Central Park. Tragic love or true love? You decide which is right...and which is an illusion. Sorry that was from a Moody Blues song. Anyway, yes - love. Good love. Bad love. Love hurts. Love-in's. Unrequited love. Can't love with'em and ya can't love without'em. Can't buy me love (Beatles). Love surrounds me (Dennis Wilson). Love the one you're with (CSNY). Love is real (Lennon). Love stinks (J. Giles). It breaks your heart and will drive any person mad.

Strawberry Fields Forever

(c) Copyright Jeffrey James Ircink

The park, Strawberry Fields, was dedicated by John Lennon's wife, Yoko, and is situated around the 70th block of the Upper West Side of Central Park in New York. There's always some sort of adornment around this centerpiece - these flowers look particularly nice.

I'm Ba-a-ack!

Returned home last night from a wonderful three-week vacation in New York City, Milwaukee, Lake Tomahawk and Chicago and have much to share but am still catching my breath. And I have a ton of pictures to figure out how to load onto a computer. Stay tuned.

"Theeeeese little town blues...", or "Stan's Addiction's" Headed to Broadway, Baby (well, Off-Off B'way)!

More breaking news...I confirmed yesterday that I'll be flying out to New York in May for a private, two day reading of "Stan's Addiction" by the Bleeker Street Irregulars Theatre Company - sorta between Greenwich Village and the lower east side of Manhattan. A theater-friend of mine from Iowa, Michael Harrington (we were in A Chorus Line together) is one of the partners in this production company, along with the former president of NYU. Barring any unforeseen hitches, Bleeker Street will put up an Equity Showcase run of the play late summer. Stay tuned for more updates!

Hey - wait a second. That means - BROADWAY, BABY!!! Well...Off-Off Broadway, but hey - who's really gonna bust MY chops, right NOW? And I said I had no interest in ever visiting the Big Apple...
