Passion = Truth? How Jeffrey James Francis Ircink Sees The World? I love when people are passionate about something. That surging of emotion is the one honest measure of what truth is. It's a truthful display of how a person really feels about something or someone at that particular moment. That passion IS truth.

TGIF! presents....Terri Nunn & Berlin's "Metro"!

What can I say about Terri Nunn that I haven't already said on this blog? Having only met her once, she embodies everything I appreciate in a woman - which would make her the ideal catch in a perfect world. She makes you feel like you're the only one in the audience.

Terri & Berlin performed at Milwaukee's Pridefest this past Sunday. This is the 4th time I've seen her perform - last time was in 2009 when I saw her show 3x in one year just before I moved back to Milwaukee from Los Angeles. She looks better than she did in the 80's and her voice is just as good.

I only wish more people had turned out to see this performance - kind of embarrassing when less than 1/4 of the bleachers are filled at the Miller Stage. And mind you - Terri has been taken in by the LGBT community as sort of their poster girl (or one of them, and she's straight). I guess most of the crowd that was there (which was scant) wanted to be in the techno tent instead.

Honestly, if no one had shown up and I had Terri all to myself, that would be fine.

Jenny's dead.

The last season of Showtime's The L Word started off with a bang (or I should say, a "gurgle, gurgle") - specifically, Jenny's death by drowning. The remainder of the season is a flash-back leading up to her demise. Someone wanted her dead - but who? WHO I SAY???!!!

Good. Jenny turned into a raving bitch and she deserved to die. I wrote on an L Word message board last season that I was a bit confused and taken aback by Jenny's personality turn and that it leaned more toward a caricature or a stereotypical "raving bitch" - and thus, not believable to me.

Jenny's dead. That's a good thing. But the actress who plays her, Mia Kirshner, is very much alive. That's a good thing too.

California's Prop 8 Initiative: Misleading Ad Campaign is Obsolutely Unacceptable!

Proposition 8 is an initiative measure on the 2008 California General Election ballot titled Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry. If passed, the proposition would "change the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California." Here's a condensed version of the title and summary:

ELIMINATES RIGHT OF SAME-SEX COUPLES TO MARRY. INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT. Changes the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California. Provides that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California. Fiscal Impact: Over next few years, potential revenue loss, mainly sales taxes, totaling in the several tens of millions of dollars, to state and local governments. In the long run, likely little fiscal impact on state and local governments.

Forget about whether you're for or against this imitative (I'm against it by the way). My immediate concern is with the advertising campaign IN FAVOR of Prop 8. While watching football yesterday, I saw an ad discussing the "errors" of teaching same-sex unions in our schools and I sent a text to my Republican cousin, Scott, saying I'm voting against it. Watch the ad here.

The basic Prop 8 initiative that will be on the ballot has NOTHING to do with the issue of teaching traditional or same-sex marriages. As you read above, it's about whether or not California will recognize same-sex unions as legal marriages. The fact that proponents of Prop 8 are running advertisements shifting the focus to teaching our children in the school system is a misrepresentation of the basic initiative; it's disgraceful. It's misleading. It should be illegal. Why don't Prop 8 proponents start running ads that say your property values will go down once a gay couple moves in next door? Or that this will encourage gay couples to adopt more children, thus, poisoning the minds of more young children?

I don't like to be lied to. I'm disgusted. I need to bitch at someone.
