Passion = Truth? How Jeffrey James Francis Ircink Sees The World? I love when people are passionate about something. That surging of emotion is the one honest measure of what truth is. It's a truthful display of how a person really feels about something or someone at that particular moment. That passion IS truth.

Dentist takes umbrage at my rant on...dentists.

i did a post back in January called, "I hate dentists".

Yesterday someone named "Florence" from Riverside Cosmetic Dentists (I assume that's Riverside, California) left on comment on the blog post:

Border Patrol Agent job calls. PASSION = TRUTH may take sabbatical.

I'm contemplating closing down PASSION = TRUTH. After waiting almost two years, my application's been accepted to become a border patrol agent in California. Pay's good. And I get to potentially legally fire a weapon at dumb asses who are crossing the deserts into California even though they know I'm watching them through the scope of my rifle. Don't get that high off a blogging. Not sure I can handle both - blogging and protecting our borders from terrorists and illegal aliens. Dangit - maybe I've gotten more "red" in my old age. I don't know. Sure sounds like it, don't it?

Anyone think otherwise?

A Valentine's Day postscript: My friend Ed Cotter passed away.

Ed Cotter directed me in two different productions of the musical, Blood Brothers here in California. Interestingly, the word is that Ed mentioned to someone recently that the loss of his wife, De, in 2007 had been weighing heavily on his heart. They had been married for over 60 years, I think, and inseparable. He told this person he wanted to be with his wife on Valentine's Day.

His heart gave way - on Valentine's Day this past weekend.

Ed was a supporter of mine. He was my friend. He mostly directed and produced - but he did act. He was a film editor on Happy Days for years, garnering an Emmy for his work. When accepting his award, he said that he did very little "editing" on the episode he won for because Henry Winkler made is so easy for him (Ed) NOT to edit. There were a number of productions I had chances to work with Ed on other than Blood Brothers - Oleanna, The Lion in Winter, The Beauty Queen of Leenane. The timing was always off.

The character trait of Ed's I admired most was his passion. As you know from the title of this blog, PASSION's vital to my existence. When we were doing Blood Brothers and a critic ripped on the show (not the performance - the show itself), Ed went into a tyrannical rage. I followed suit. "How can you not love this show?", he'd scream, the tone in his voice made me shake - with delight. Oddly enough, when I did Blood Brothers at Riverside Theatre in Iowa City, Ron Clark and Jody Hovland echoed the same sentiments as Ed. Their demeanor was a tad more subdued (but still passionate!).

"Fuck anyone who hates that show! Fuck them!" That's what Ed and I would say. He's with De now. I'm happy for him. And I'm sad for my loss. It's what he wanted.

To quote the Narrator/Conductor/Me in Blood Brothers, "Exactly, lad. Exactly!"

POSTSCRIPT: Had a very nice talk yesterday with Marion Ross from Happy Days. I called her to tell her of Ed's death. I met her through Ed while performing in Blood Brothers. Wonderful lady. Spoke very highly of Ed. She was quick to remind me that Ed was the only person associated with Happy Days to win an Emmy.

In just 6 days, I made 46 cents with Chitika ads! WOW!

Seriously. And it cost me nothing. Hey, it's a start, man.

Chitika ads are targeted to specific markets. And you won't see the ad on this blog unless you're specifically searching the Web for - "mortgages," for example. I'm not really sure how it all works - I need to read more about it on their website. It was never my intention to try and earn anything when I started PASSION = TRUTH in March 2006. But - time's change. Mind's change. Economy's change. (Are there supposed to be apostrophe's there? Aren't they possessive?) What the hell. We'll see.

"A tree starts as a seed first, then changes into a mighty oak." I said that. Jeffrey James Francis Ircink.

PASSION = TRUTH continues to set blogging records!

December 2008 had around 5,506 visits (yellow)- the most of any month since I started PASSION = TRUTH in March 2007 (10x what it was in December 2007) and PASSION = TRUTH has had a consistent significant increase in readership since March 2008 - including the amount of page views (orange). This is important as it's a direct reflection oF how long readers stay on a particular blog. And as I've always stated about blog posts, it's not the quantity that counts, but December had the 2nd most blog posts (next to July 2008) all-time - 109.

PASSION = TRUTH has also become a blog of commerce...somewhat. I now have an Amazon banner so you can peruse this site AND make book and music purchases easily. I also negotiated a few nice barters - blog URL listings in exchange for merchandise or my blog listing on another site. Finally, I added the FOLLOWER feature so if you'd like to become a regular visitor of PASSION = TRUTH, you can sign up and get regular blog updates as they happen.

Onward and upward, as they say, for PASSION = TRUTH!

PASSION = TRUTH blog update!

A useless factoid to you (is "factoids" a word)? Just like to keep my readers in-the-know. July was my most active month - 111 posts. I don't create all the news out there; I just rant about it. Since January my readership numbers have been increasing 2, 3 and 4-fold - August is already 5x what is was last year and we're not even half-way through the month.

Keep reading - and comment. Come on...I KNOW you have something you wanna get off your chest.

It's Wednesday and I was mentioned in "Tuesdays" on Friday.

(reprinted from Tuesdays)

don't i know you?
interesting when two friends meet...i went to waterford union high school with blogger jeff ircink (passion=truth) who now lives in LA and works as an actor, playwright, and...what else is it you do jeff? jeff's a published playwright (and a good one) who in his spare time fishes, smokes cigars, and has a major man-crush on brett favre. (yes, straight men can have crushes on other straight men without thinking about penis.)

i've worked in milwaukee theater with blogger jonathan west (artsy schmartsy) many, many times, and i actually just saw him in a wonderful production of tally's folly at milwaukee chamber theater. over the years, jon's been an actor, a director, a writer, run a theater company of his own...and i'm sure there's more. these days, he's also a devoted father and spouse.

two days ago, jeff and i had a delightful phone conversation about the recent brett favre "i'm retired -- no i'm not!" debacle, easily summed up in two lines:

tony: "it makes that weepy news conference seem like bullshit."
jeff: "he changed his mind, it happens all the time."

this morning, i realized these two (jeff and jonathan) "old" friends were
already having this conversation...

A bit of PASSION = TRUTH business...

I have the remedial (meaning it's the barebones free one) blog counter that keeps stats on who's visiting your blog, location, which pages they've viewed, how long they visit, etc. It keeps stats for one year.

For the month of June 2007 I had 476 total visitors. Remember, I started the blog sometime in April 2007. Yesterday's count for the month of June 2008 was 2798.

I think that's pretty cool - a 5-fold increase in visitors in one year. So, if you take a gander once in a while, perhaps you should visit more often. Feel free to leave a comment on a particular post OR send me an email at irc_64@hotmail.com or weakknees@gbpackersfan.com. And thanks for stopping by.

Blogs I Like - Everything Martha Stewart.

Not really.

But I happened upon Martha's website because she had recently posted a picture of herself with Paul Newman (who I do like) and I wanted to take a look. On the left panel of Martha's blog - which can be found within her website - there's a category, "Blogs I Like" - much like the "Cool Sites for Your Pleasure" category I have on the right panel of my this blog.

Every blog Martha lists - save one - are HER blogs. At least, they're all under the umbrella of "blogs.marthastewart.com", with contributing posts from a variety of people who might know her or they have password to post...whatever.

Anyway, I just thought it was funny that there were no other blogs Martha "liked" save her own. She obviously hasn't perused PASSION = TRUTH now, has she?

I'm ambivalent towards Martha. I was satisfied she did time for her crime and that's sorta it. When she was placed under house arrest for five months and had to wear an ankle bracelet, she said something that left me dumbfounded.

While serving time in prison she said, "But like everyone else here," she wrote, "I would rather be doing all of this in my own home, and not here -- away from family and friends." Then when she was sent to her home to serve the remaining five months, she said something along the lines of 'being confined in my home wearing this ankle bracelet is hideous - in some ways prison was much better". (I'm paraphrasing). Really? I mean, I know she bitched about the ankle bracelet hurting, but prison was better than being in your own home - with privacy? Never understood that.

PASSION = TRUTH by the numbers

Since I started this blog in March 2007, I've had just over 8300 visitors from over 60 countries - not the greatest numbers, but respectable. I've talked to several blogging experts who are confident they can show me how to increase my traffic, so we'll see where I wanna go with this thing.

March 2008 was my highest blogging month with 93 posts. And through April 24, 2008, I've already posted 265 posts in 2008 - I posted 253 in all of 2007.

What does this prove? Nothing - they're just numbers.
