Passion = Truth? How Jeffrey James Francis Ircink Sees The World? I love when people are passionate about something. That surging of emotion is the one honest measure of what truth is. It's a truthful display of how a person really feels about something or someone at that particular moment. That passion IS truth.

"James Franklin".

welcome to Glen Mar..."James Franklin"!
standing at a cool 7 feet, this gent (also known as Abies fraseri) is a favorite amongst Christmas trees. when he isn't just standing around, he loves to donate his scent to air fresheners & incense, provide traditional remedies for colds & scurvy, and loves to participate in fir waves. all the way from Dutchman Tree Farms (via Pick n' Save), in Manton, MI!
i started naming my tree after favorite celebs who passed away that year: 2015 - Maureen (Maureen O'Hara), 2016 - Ricci-Earl (after Ricci Martin, Dean Martin's youngest son) & writer Earl Hamner, Jr., both of whom i knew personally.
this year's Christmas tree is appropriately - and with much joy (and sadness) - named after my father, James Anthony, who passed in March, and his childhood friend, Frank Lenten, who passed in September - both men lost to us within 6 months of each other & at the same age, leaving a very deep chasm in our hearts.

NOTE: i omitted one important name but i'll save it for next year (a slight breach in naming etiquette) as it's too much to have a three-named Christmas tree. also, i would appreciate it, God, if we can keep this to just ONE name & someone i don't know. thank you.)

no family portrait this year - too difficult. and as you can see, i haven't posted all year - mostly due to my father's passing. and Facebook. perhaps that will change in 2018.

Veterans Day.

Veterans Day is today. Take a moment to remember those who served and died for our country. Those with us still - and those who have left us. That includes my father - James Anthony Ircink - who served about the USS Shangri-LA (CV-38) from 1957-61, a long-haul, Essex-class carrier, the 2nd largest in the fleet at the time. Thanks for your service, Pappy!

Lost...and found.

The prayer book my father was given while serving in the Navy was mailed back to dad by his cousin Paul in Spokane, who had it amongst his things. Dad doesn't remember this, but his signature is on the back. This particular book is dated 1960-61. Dad served on the USS Shangri-La (CV-38), an Essex-class carrier - the 2nd largest in the fleet at that time.

Saint Anthony, perfect imitator of Jesus, who received
from God the special power of restoring lost things,
grant that I may find my find which has been
lost. As least restore to me peace and tranquility
of mind, the loss of which has afflicted
me even more than my material loss.

To this favor I ask another of you: that I may
always remain in possession of the true good
that is God. Let me rather lose all things than
lose God, my supreme good. Let me never
suffer the loss of my greatest treasure,
eternal life with God. Amen.

A celebration of 50 years! To Jim & Dee Dee....Huzzah!

My mother and father met while my dad's band, the Glen LeMar Trio, was playing at Jolly's Supper Club in Greendale. 50 years ago, Saturday, June 15, James Anthony Ircink & Dolores Regina Datka were wedded at Sacred Hearts Church in Franklin (now St. Martin of Tours), with the reception following at Clifford's Supper Club in Hales Corners. Or they met at Clifford's and the reception was at Jolly's. They remain wedded today and Brother Jas & I are very, very happy for them.

I made the corsage and boutonnière from flowers in my garden - a personal touch my parents loved. Here's a very quick video of my mom "pinning" my father, to "their song", "She Wears My Ring" .

We had a lovely time at Glen Mar - my place in Greendale - with music, stories and drinks - followed by dinner at Joey Gerard's Supper Club in Greendale. An evening very special for all of us.

A Golden Anniversary for Jim & Dee Dee!

My parents - James Anthony Ircink & Dolores Regina Datka - were married 50 years ago today, Saturday, June 15. The wedding ceremony was at Sacred Hearts Church (now St. Martin of Tours) in Franklin and the receptions was at Jolly's Supper Club (now Carl's Catering) in Greendale.

Quite a feat - 50 years. I wish Jimmy & Dee Dee peace, God's blessings...and much love.

Irish mail.

I asked my father (NOT my dad above) to name a Christmas gift from his childhood that stood out in his memory. He immediately piped up, "An Irish mail". No clue what he was talking about. My dad and my Uncle Tom (one year younger than dad) each got one for Christmas in their youth. Dad said my Grandpa Ircink used to make them wooden toys as well - aircraft carriers, fire trucks. Gramps was a master carpenter (as a hobby).

In days of yore when things were made to last. What do YOU want from Santa?

#55 - "Grace Notes from a Bohemian in Wanderlust". Aunt Ruth's cottage.

("Grace Notes from a Bohemian in Wanderlust" is a series of posts about my 3.5 week May vacation in Seattle, Chicago, Milwaukee, Lake Tomahawk, WI and Miami. They are in no particular order.)

My father - relaxing at his sister's cottage in Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin. My Aunt Ruth has had this place for...a while. It's on indian reservation land. We always try and stop in and visit while we're fishing up at the Rainbow in Lake Tomahawk. Click on READ MORE! and let's take a peek at my Aunt Ruth's cabin.

Dad, Uncle Tom (deceased) and Uncle Fran. The Ircink brothers.

When I lived in Bel Air, CA, I had a Christmas tree up year-round. I had it up for two reasons - one, it was my way of commenting that the "Christmas Spirit" should live on 365 days a year and not just during the Christmas season, and two, it reminded me of my home in Wisconsin - the Up North feel of cabins and woods and evergreens. The bitch who owned the property where I lived and worked in Bel Air thought I was nuts for keeping my tree up year-round.

I guess all the Ircink's are nuts then, Barb. My mother has two trees up year-round as well.

My Grampa Ircink's lure collection.

The Ircink clan. Back row, left to right: Aunt Ev, Dad, Uncle Tom, Aunt Ruth, Aunt Mary (deceased), Uncle Fran. Front row: Grampa and Grama Ircink. The occasion of this picture was my grandparent's 50th anniversary. Myself, my father and brother got wasted. :)

Lost Christmas 2007 video #2 - Frank & Mike's.

First of all, turn the jukebox at the top of the page to MUTE for this video and the one below it. I've had a devil of a time trying to load videos from my camera onto Blogger. First it wouldn't load at all. The I tried loading it onto Imeem and it ended up 90 degree on its left side so you had to tilt your head to watch it. Then I loaded it onto Facebook and that worked. Well, this is better than nothing.

Frank Lenton grew up with my dad in Greendale, WI. Same age. 72. Wonderful man - funnier than shit. Jas and I went to visit him and his partner, Mike, Christmas Day eve (the night after I shot the video in the post below). Frank is telling the story of how he remembers my brother and I when we were children. Uh...there's adult language in this video so...Whoo!

When Frank mentions, "Tommy", that's my Uncle Tom - Dad's middle brother (they were only a year apart). He passed away a few year's ago.

The Boxer. James Ircink

My cousin, James Ircink, strikes a pose during a semi-final bout at Notre Dame, where he's a student. I think he won this match. Atta way go, James! Sorta reminds me 'a me own boxin' days'. See picture below.
