Passion = Truth? How Jeffrey James Francis Ircink Sees The World? I love when people are passionate about something. That surging of emotion is the one honest measure of what truth is. It's a truthful display of how a person really feels about something or someone at that particular moment. That passion IS truth.

"Kayne-West-and-Mama-Show" (formerly known as the 50th Grammys Awards)

Rapper Kayne West pulled out all the punches at the 50th Grammy's last night by making it his mission to honor his mother, who died unexpectedly in November at the age of 58 due to heart issues after having surgery. After accepting the award for best rap album, he began talking about the future of hip-hop and at :53 seconds the background music began to usher him off-stage. That's when he said, "Come on...you're gonna play music over me?" Sorry, Kanye - I didn't know you were the only singer receiving an award tonight. You're special. Go ahead and take longer than you're supposed to. After all, since President Bush 'doesn't care about black people', why should you care about anyone else at the Grammy's but yourself? Then he finished what he was talking about - hip-hop - and then he started to speak about his mother, Donda West at 1:22.

That's when he said, "It would be in good taste to stop the music," said West. The music stopped and the crowd applauded. He continued, speaking to his mother until 1:48.

The entire evening was, for West, a tribute to his mother. With the word "MAMA" cut into his hair, he performed a special version of his 2005 song "Hey Mama." It followed a glow-in-the-dark rendition of "Stronger" with the French electronic duo Daft Punk, whose 2001 single "Harder Better Faster Stronger" provides the sample to West's hit. West then stepped forward to sing "Hey Mama" while paintings of angels flashed above.

Time to shut up Kayne West and step aside. Now - my commentary.

I didn't watch the Grammy's but I saw the two performances mentioned above. They both performances sucked. And who the hell does he think he is, telling the band conductor to stop the music so he can continue to banter?? With all due respect to his mother and his grief, the Grammy's isn't a platform for a eulogy about your mother, Mr. West. What you did was in bad taste. The whole world, including Vietcong still hiding in tunnels in Southeast Asia, know that winners are given an allotted amount of time to accept awards. That includes you. The show already runs 10 hours too long. With your 30 seconds, thank your agent, manager, the record company, writers and the fans who bought your music - dedicate your award (he won 4) to your mother and then get off the stage. This isn't the Kayne West show, idiot. My God - you had "Mama" shaved in your head; you sang a song about your mother called, "Hey Mama" - we get it. You're grieving. We understand. Now get your ass off the stage and shut up.

This is why I don't watch these shitty shows anymore. Oscars. Tony's. Kennedy Center Honors. That's it. Maybe the Spirit Awards. It's a joke. I taped the show and did a fast-forward, just to catch Kanye praying before the winner of Album of the Year was announced. He lost - to Herbie Hancock. A jazz album hasn't won in decades. Great timing, Herbie. Sorry, Kanye. Next year?
