You mean there's more in this state besides maple syrup? A recent Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article extolled the "culinary wilderness" that is Wisconsin. Apparently our state has been omitted from some "best of" lists and someone wanted to set the record straight. As it should be. Bastards.

They gotta be two years old. Are they still edible? Seriously, 'cause I just polished off a can of these puppies.

Or "steak tartare" or "cannibal food"...depending on where you live. Mostly a Christmas holiday treat, this delicacy has been popular with the Ircink's and Datka's (my mother's family) since before my parent's were born. Not sure if it's a Wisconsin thing or a Midwest thing or a German thing (I know it's a popular dish with Jews and Asians). Whatever it is, the "thing" is tasty. You have to use fat-free ground round or ground sirloin. Spread it on rye slice, salt and add a slice of onion and you're set.
When I lived in Iowa we had to bring a dish to pass for a Christmas party at work. I brought in a couple pounds of meat, onions, rye bread and salt. Everyone looked at the the spread like I was nuts.
Except the German guy from Chicago. We both feasted. And I've never gotten sick from eating raw beef. Ever.

A Scottish egg. Given to me by Bob & Paula, coffee-clutch friends of my mother's. Very good.

Maria (that's the Maria w/the Donovan and Grace and Baby Gwyneth, my goddaughter, in Tujunga Maria - come on you should know this!) cooked us this wonderful meal on Monday evening. Grilled chicken Mediterranean with polenta (that yellowish foodcake stuff made with ground yellow or white cornmeal) and covered in ratatouille, a traditional French Provençal stewed vegetable dish. The crepe-ish looking thingy on the top left is spanakopita, filled with spinach.
Bravo, Maria! Mmmmm, good!

Not moi - the soup. Miso soup. Had some on Friday and it was awesome. Don't think I've ever had it before. Sushi Mon in the West Hollywood area. And the sake - superb. Had sake once or twice and hated it. This stuff tasted like port. Port wine - which I love.

I brought a dozen mini muffins into work yesterday. Found this sucker among the 3 or 4 left.
Cut in half.
Is it just me or does anyone else find that a bit odd? Seriously. I'm stymied. It's a freakin' mini muffin. It's all of 2 inches x 2 inches, if that. The entire muffin would fit into a snail's mouth. Or a mudskipper's mouth, for that matter (for those of you familiar with MUD's).
I'm pretty sure that whoever did this - pretty sure I would never hang with this person outside the office. Wait - I'm positive I wouldn't hang with this person - ever.
