Passion = Truth? How Jeffrey James Francis Ircink Sees The World? I love when people are passionate about something. That surging of emotion is the one honest measure of what truth is. It's a truthful display of how a person really feels about something or someone at that particular moment. That passion IS truth.

TGIF! presents...Michael McGlone, the Geico dude!

You know those Geico commercials with the Rod Serling/Robert Stack-esque spokesperson? I find the "character" annoying - and difficult to understand at times. He's a friend of my friend, Marisa Petroro, in Los Angeles. And he's quite the singer/musician. Here he is a different light.

TGIF! presents...a Hump Day Special! Hyundai's Super Bowl ad starring...Brett Favre!

I love people who can make fun of themselves. I need to make more fun of myself. The world needs more people like that.

About Favre waffling and being unable to make up his mind about retiring: I'll address this once and I'm done. The Minnesota Vikings are cool with Brett taking however long he needs. You morons who bitch and moan about it need to find a hobby...like whittling or beating your meat, or go to the local carnival you wished you ran away to when you were a child and go Whack-A-Mole. If the press wouldn't beat this into the ground, there'd be no "media hound Favre" for you to worry about. And unless you're a fan of the Minnesota Vikings, why would give a shit anyway?

Have I spoken plainly enough for you? People need to laugh at themselves more. Brett's laughing at you right now. So am I. Everyone else can just fuck off.

The Good Gray Poet touting Levi's?

Walt Whitman endorsing Levi's? Say it ain't so, Walt? I'm sure you've seen these ads. I won't comment on them - read this article from Slate.com.

Whether it's Michael Jordan's Nike's or Elizabeth Taylor perfume, celebrities moonlighting as Madison Avenue hawkers is as common as...well, as poop. The public's affinity for coveting products touted by a favored actor or athlete says, I think, more about people's desperation to live their lives through someone else's than it does about the celebrity making a buck.

I'm a big fan of Whitman's - my favorite poet. Being a writer and having worked as an advertising agency copywriter, I understand the creative nudge for wanting to marry Whitman's poetry with a product like Lev's - a product engrained in Americana as much as Whitman is engrained in America's literary history. But I'm also leery of making Walt a spokesperson for a product without his permission. I get the public domain thing. Still...well, you be the judge. Levi's began this campaign this past summer; the commercial above contains a snippet of "Pioneers! O Pioneers!". The commercial in the Slate.com article uses portion of Whitman's, "America". It's thought that the voiceover in the "America" spot is an actual recording of Whitman's voice.

Levi's were around when Whitman was alive. It's likely he may have even worn a pair or two.

Super Bowl 43. Good game, a felon and SB ads.

Not caring about either team, I picked Pittsburgh just to make our SB party interesting. So I guess I'm a winner.

1st quarter zipped by quicker than most I've watched. Great game. As I pointed out a couple posts below, I felt Steeler James Harrison should've got the boot after his unsportsmanlike penalty in the 4th quarter. He's a felon-in-the-making.

SB ads? Not the quality we're used to seeing. Blame that on our economy.

My favorite ads were Doritos Sno Globe, Etrade babies, Careerbuilder.com and Hulu (with Alec Baldwin). You can see all the commercials here. The ad "Sobe: Dancers", was done before. Season 3 of Saturday Night Live, Gary Weis did a short film called, "Swan Lake Ballet". And the Jack-in-the-Box ad where spokesperson "Jack" gets hit by a car, I thought, was inappropriate. Here's an article on what appears to be "Jack's" demise. Go Daddy - who was the actress who played "Miss Schmidt" in the shower ad? I used to work for Go Daddy CEO and Founder, Bob Parsons when he owned Parsons Technology in Hiawatha, Iowa. Big supporter of the arts.

Eva Mendes' nipple too hot for TV???

The nipple debate rears its ugly head - or nipple - yet again.

STUFF.co.nz features an article on a Calvin Klein's most recent perfume commercial that was banned from U.S. television (and eventually Youtube) featuring actress Eva Mendes and her nipple. Click here to read the article - click the link at the botton of the article to watch the "racier" banned ad. I think I saw her nipple once in the entire commerical.
