Passion = Truth? How Jeffrey James Francis Ircink Sees The World? I love when people are passionate about something. That surging of emotion is the one honest measure of what truth is. It's a truthful display of how a person really feels about something or someone at that particular moment. That passion IS truth.

It's official! Wisconsin Badgers. 11-1. Co-Big Ten Champs. And headed to the Grandaddy of'em all!

Congrats to Ohio State and Michigan State for tying the Wisconsin Badgers at 11-1, resulting in a three-way tie as Big 10 Champs. But - only one team goes to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. So...eat it Ohio State and whiny bitch Coach Mark Dantonio* of Michigan St. (incidentally, Dantonio was the ONLY coach to vote Michigan St. ahead of Wisconsin and Ohio State in the polls).

ROSE BOWL! ROSE BOWL! ROSE BOWL! One more time? OK...ROOOOOSE BOOOOWL!!!

*Coach Dantonio, while groveling about why Michigan State should go to the Rose Bowl, stated his team "convincingly" beat Wisconsin. Then he drove home the point by repeating his statement. Really? Hey dork - you were beating us by only 3 points with 3 minutes left in the game. If you think that's "convincingly" beating us, then how about giving your team a pep talk and tell them that the bowl they're going to is really the Rose Bowl. I'm sure you can be really "convincing".

No. 6 Wisconsin Badgers eviscerate Indiana, 83-20.

83-20. I don't think there's anything else to add to that (except to say this was an NCAA football game). If we can get two more wins against Michigan and Northwestern, Wisconsin is Rose Bowl bound. GO BADGERS!!

GO BIG RED! Wisconsin wins Champs Bowl!

Champs Bowl MVP John Clay and Badger Coach Bret Bielema celebrate Wisconsin's victory over the Miami Hurricanes, 20-14. A bit late posting this news - I DID post it in a timely fashion but the post disappeared for some reason.

"On Wisconsin, On Wisconsin, plunge right through that line! (U Rah Rah)"

ESPN's Craig James (is a dick), his son (probably a dick too) and a "dark shed".

So, the former head coach of the Texas Tech football team, Mike Leach, finds himself in hot water for locking receiver Adam James in the "woodshed" ("dark shed", "storage closet", whatever the fuck it was he locked him in) because Coach Leach thought James was faking a concussion.

Before Leach could whip out the switch on James, Leach gets the boot. Normally I wouldn't condone such behavior by a coach - any adult, for that matter. However, Adam James ain't the little drummer boy, according to a number of sources.

But don't tell his daddy, former NFLer and ESPN college analyst Craig James. James and his wife brought this matter to the Texas Tech administration's attention and all hell broke lose.

Like I said - normally I'd chastise Coach Leach. But I hate Craig James. Why? In 1998, James stated on ESPN that the #9-ranked Wisconsin Badgers were "the worst team to ever play in the Rose Bowl." Wisconsin went on to defeat the #6-ranked UCLA 38–31 in the 1999 Rose Bowl, led by ex-NFLer RB Ron Dayne. Afterward, Badger coach Barry Alvarez fired back, "Well, I know we're at least the second worst."

I never forgot that Craig James' comment. It was a dumb thing to say. And every time I see his face I think it was a dumb thing to say. Best part is that he got faced in the end - Wisconsin won the game. Call me jaded...Craig could tell me it's raining when it is raining and I wouldn't believe him. No credibility.

Craig James is a dick. Ergo, so is Adam James.

An expensive Halloween mocoa.

At about the time I was taking my first sips from this hauntingly tasteful mocoa (see below) at some nondescript coffee shop last Halloween Saturday, an email was being transmitted to my hotmail account. The gist of that email was 'we aren't getting along; you disrespected me; you need to leave.'

The email was from a friend (let's call her "Babs") I was staying with (not her house). Considering the events that had unfolded leading up to my mocoa, I wasn't completely surprised. I was more surprised when I found my belongings on the front stoop, waiting for me. Bye, bye, Jeff.

I comment that this was an expensive mocoa as our friendship (mine and Bab's) is in jeopardy. "Was" in jeopardy? Is kaput? Whatever. Not sure at this point. Shit's gone down like this before between us and it's always resolved itself. I remind you of my shit on the stoop.

I guess what I'm most perplexed about is how one deals with someone who's been diagnosed with inadequate interpersonal skills (sort of - I won't get into the specifics) when it comes to certain relationships in his/her life. In other words, Babs is fragile, an addict and needs to be handled with kid gloves. The sticky point in all this is how much can I (or anyone else dealing with Babs) bend over for her (or people like her) while treating her with kid gloves AND at the same time not allow Babs to walk all over everyone in her path, using the 'I'm fragile and I'm not supposed to be treated this way' crutch?

Am I making myself clear? I'm not without fault. I blew up at Babs the 3rd time she told me how to drive my car. 1) I already told her twice before not to do that, 2) I just moved back to WI from Los Angeles after 11+ years of driving in the worst traffic in the United States, and 3) I always check my blind side when merging onto the freeway - I'm blind in my left eye. I have to. It's as much of a reflex as your kick reflex when you hit your knee in the doctor's office.

That incident triggered what was to become my undoing. In hindsight, knowing Bab's condition, I should've curbed my tongue. But this brings me back to my original thought: treat others as you would want them to treat you (I guess). If Babs expects to be treated kindly, so do I. No personal relationships are one-way streets.

In the end, I hope Babs and I can someday move beyond all this. We've been estranged before. But in the almost 12 years I've known her, I've come to realize she has excellent qualities and I wouldn't want to be deprived of them. I was pissed - to find my shit on the stoop, yeh. Fucking, steaming pissed. Like busting shit up pissed. But the Christian side of me says to forgive and turn the other cheek.

Ha...I can be stingy when it comes to turning the other cheek. We'll see.

I'll see your eye gouging and raise you a slap on the hand.

Florida coach Urban Meyer suspended Brandon Spikes for the first half of this Saturday's game against Vanderbilt (2-7) due to attempted eye gouging of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey last Saturday.

Granted, the NCAA may take further action after it reviews the case. But a big SHAME ON YOU Coach Meyer for basically doing nothing to Spikes. First half suspension???? Are you fucking kidding me? For eye gouging??? This disgusts me.

If you missed this flagrant foul committed by assfuck Spikes, watch it here.

I realize the Georgia running back said Spikes shouldn't be suspended and that the attempted eye gouging didn't come close to his eyes. OK - sooooo....do we just forgive people for attempted armed robbery? Attempted murder? Attempted kidnapping? Where in the NCAA rulebook does it say "eye gouging, etc.....welllllll....if you're caught, we won't discipline you for it" ? Why don't we let players carry other weapons ('cause your hand is a weapon) onto the field with them? Make the game really interesting. What sort of example are you setting on the high school football level? Wonder what Knute Rockne and Lombardi and Landry and Halas (college and NFL coaches) would do if they were in Meyer's shoes?

HALF GAME suspension? Highly unlikely.

We 'Aren't' Marshall (or we wish we weren't right about now).

Ever see a football player break his leg in the opposite direction? Watch it here.

The visiting Houston team defeated Marshall yesterday (I believe), but the win was a costly one as Houston WR Patrick Edwards slammed his right shin into a cart off the field trying to shag an errant pass.

I'm assuming the ink on the lawsuit paperwork is already dry.

Speaking of football injuries, here's one you may have forgotten. No, not Joe Thiesman. Destry Wright (not Wight, like the article caption says), a free agent out of Jackson State who joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in his rookie year for the 2000-01 NFL football season. Apparently he was trying to earn the 3rd RB spot but he was tackled in a preseason game against Dallas during a routine run around the left end and his knee was snapped backwards, snapping his fibula and dislocating his ankle. Out for the season.

No word on what happened to Wright after that season.
