Passion = Truth? How Jeffrey James Francis Ircink Sees The World? I love when people are passionate about something. That surging of emotion is the one honest measure of what truth is. It's a truthful display of how a person really feels about something or someone at that particular moment. That passion IS truth.

Coach Guy Morriss...antithesis of a college coach.

Two freshmen Texas A&M-Commerce football players were arrested in a campus drug bust on Feb. 19 after several bags of marijuana, pills and other drug paraphernalia were traced to said players. The story was reported on the front page of The East Texan, the school newspaper.

On the morning of Feb. 25, Texas A&M-Commerce football players took all of the school newspapers out of the racks around campus - videotape showed two junior football players taking campus newspapers out of a rack. In all, about 2,000 copies were removed from campus property, estimated at about $1,100.

Texas A&M-Commerce football coach Guy Morriss was asked if he had seen the Feb. 25 newspaper, and he stated, he "didn't read that crap." Morriss, commenting on the stolen newspapers, stated, "I'm proud of my players for doing that... This was the best team-building exercise we have ever done."

What a great role model for college athletes, huh?

My alma mater wins 5th consec. football championship. GO WARHAWKS!

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team wrapped up its fifth consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegdiate Athletic Conference title and the league's automatic berth in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III championship playoffs with a 40-7 win over UW-Oshkosh in Perkins Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The Warhawk football team's run of five consecutive league championships is the second longest streak since the WIAC crowned its first champion in 1913 (UW-La Crosse, six, 1949-54) and the second longest for any sport in UW-Whitewater history (wrestling, 19074-80). GO WARHAWKS!

I'll see your eye gouging and raise you a slap on the hand.

Florida coach Urban Meyer suspended Brandon Spikes for the first half of this Saturday's game against Vanderbilt (2-7) due to attempted eye gouging of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey last Saturday.

Granted, the NCAA may take further action after it reviews the case. But a big SHAME ON YOU Coach Meyer for basically doing nothing to Spikes. First half suspension???? Are you fucking kidding me? For eye gouging??? This disgusts me.

If you missed this flagrant foul committed by assfuck Spikes, watch it here.

I realize the Georgia running back said Spikes shouldn't be suspended and that the attempted eye gouging didn't come close to his eyes. OK - sooooo....do we just forgive people for attempted armed robbery? Attempted murder? Attempted kidnapping? Where in the NCAA rulebook does it say "eye gouging, etc.....welllllll....if you're caught, we won't discipline you for it" ? Why don't we let players carry other weapons ('cause your hand is a weapon) onto the field with them? Make the game really interesting. What sort of example are you setting on the high school football level? Wonder what Knute Rockne and Lombardi and Landry and Halas (college and NFL coaches) would do if they were in Meyer's shoes?

HALF GAME suspension? Highly unlikely.

Part 2/Bitter Fran. Someone sedate Fran Tarkenton...for my own good.

I blogged about the bitter, old, ex-Viking QB in May. Well, Fran's back. Maybe he's pissed 'cause his jersey wasn't offered up for sale on FoxSports.com (see comments below).

"I really have no interest in what Brett Favre does. He kind of lost me a few years ago by retiring and unretiring and here and there," Bitter Fran said on "The Opening Drive" on Sirius NFL Radio. "I asked a few friends here, maybe 10 or 12 people we were out with last night. I said, 'What do you think about Brett Favre going back to the Vikings?' You know who cared? Nobody." THEN WHY ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT HIM (AGAIN) ON SIRIUS RADIO, YOU ASSHOLE?! HYPOCRITE!

"I think he has been a great flamboyant quarterback, but he has made more stupid plays than any great quarterback that I've ever seen. Look at his final game in a Packers uniform. He blew that game [NFC championship] against the Giants," Bitter Fran said in late May on KFAN-1130 in the Twin Cities. YOU BLEW 3 SUPER BOWLS, FRAN! HYPOCRITE!

"Wouldn't you be upset if you're a Packer fan? I think you're going to have Packer fans burning the No. 4 Favre Green Bay jersey. I think the Packer fans have every right to be outraged." BURN YOUR JERSEYS...THAT'S RIGHT. NO - WAIT...GIVE THEM TO ME! AND WHILE YOU'RE AT IT, BURN BOOKS...AND WITCHES TOO!

(Paraphrasing Bitter Fran's comment in May) "I hope he signs with the Vikings and I hope he fails." IF FAVRE FAILS, DOESN'T YOUR EX-TEAM THE VIKINGS FAIL? AREN'T YOU BEING HYPOCRITICAL AND SELFISH JUST AS YOU HAVE ACCUSED FAVRE OF BEING? HYPOCRITE!

Get a grip, bitter, old man.

Separated at Birth? My buddy Nick Perkins & Jon Bon Jovi, Dave Phenicie and Troy Aikman.

I think if Jon and Troy mated and had twins (not identical), you'd get my buddy, Nick (musician, bottom right) and Dave Phenicie (bottom left), singer/bassist for Stonehoney. Or Dave and Nick share the same father with the other two, and moved away to stay with Crazy Uncle Albert who taught both of them music. I mean, three musicians?? Coincidence? No. I've seen Stonehoney perform 4x and I've met Dave and I think of Nicko every time. Funny thing is Nick's a staunch Cowboy's fan. Go Troy!!! And go FAVRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Get a grip...and a life, Michael Hunt!"

Michael Hunt is a sports columnist for the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel - my hometown newspaper. An article appeared in today's paper (thanks for the head's up, mom!) written by Mr. Hunt - "Favre taking us on a ride - again".

My response to Mr. Hunt and Letters to the Editor is as follows:

Why is the nature of journalists (and fans) to feel the need to SPEAK FOR ME and the way I FEEL about Brett Favre? Here's another great example: Michael Hunt's article in yesterday's paper, "Favre taking us on a ride - again" (MJS June 17, 2009). As Mr. Hunt's column is a personal opinion column, I would prefer his headline read: "Favre taking ME on a ride - again". You see, Brett Favre is not taking Jeff Ircink on any ride. He never has - except perhaps the "ride" of watching him play every Sunday (and that includes last season as I boycotted the Pack in favor of the Jets). Whatever Brett plans to do - unretire or stay retired - makes no difference to me. It doesn't affect my life like it obviously affects thousands of you who scream and moan that "Favre did this" and "Brett's doing that" or "oh it's that time of year again...will he or won't he?". It's his decision. The media and fans are constantly throwing phrases around like "his image is tarnished", "once he was a legend" or "my hero has fallen". You know what...that's YOUR problem - not Brett's. Or mine. Here's my phrase for all of you: "Get a a grip - and a life."

Trojans in Tears; Ripped by Beavers.

That headline is courtesy of my cousin, Scott Schmidt, of CRACTION fame (or soon to be famous, I should say).

Truly, there are (2) instances when a beaver beating a trojan is bad:
1) During sex - this is every man's worst nightmare (and I suppose a woman's too), and...

2) If you're a fan of the #1 ranked USC Trojans and you just got upset by the Oregon Beavers last night.

Heehaw. Now maybe LA will shut up about their invincible Trojans. Did I say, "HEEEEEHAWWWWW

If he looks like a whiner and smells like a whiner, then he's probably Laveranues Coles.

God, it's like having WR Javon Walker all over again (ex-Packer). I hope this isn't going to be an on-going issue for Brett Favre or the Jets.

A September 11th New York Daily News article discusses how Jet WR Laveranues Coles and QB Brett Favre are still searching for chemistry on the football field. Like the "chemistry" Coles had with former Jet QB Chad Pennington.

Keeping in mind that Favre hasn't had time to develop chemistry with anyone let alone Coles, why is the WR Jerricho Cotchery-Favre combination working so well? I'll tell you why - because Laveranues Coles still can't get over (or get over talking about) his relationship with former Jets QB Chad Pennington and Coles is a baby. It's a man-love issue (nothing wrong with those) that's getting in the way of Cole's job.

Take a look at the reader comments on the Daily News article. The overwhelming (95%+) number chastise Cole for his attitude. And I'm assuming most are Jets fans who are more familiar with Cole and the Jets than I am.

I've been told I have a man-love issue for Favre. If liking Brett as much as I and thousands of other fans do - then I've got man-love. But it's not preventing me from doing my job. And this is nothing new for Coles. Back in December 2006, Pennington, Jets Coach Mangini and Coles taped a segment for Sesame Street with the character, Elmo. It took Coles a while to loosen up in front of Elmo. They were all a little nervous starting out, so Mangini turned to Coles off camera. "You need to lighten up the mood," he said, to which Coles replied, "I'll try, but it's hard with you here."

Now what a second - I thought Coles' man-love was for Chad only?

Apparently Coles was mulling over holding out in the beginning of the season due to contract issues. Now, it doesn't seem to be a problem, probably because Coles realized that he was injured for most of last season as the team struggled to a 4-12 finish. It's the exact scenario (money and injuries) that eventually led to mommy's boy Javon Walker being booted out of Green Bay AND then Denver. Walker's with the Raiders and guess what - he's got a hamstring injury...again.

My advice to Coles? Get your shit together. Remember how you left the Jets in 2003-04 to play for the Redskins because you wanted more money? That whole Chad-thing wasn't that important to you then, was it? You're a grown man. Stop talking about your man-love for Chad and catch a ball. Or get out of the NFL.

Belicheat's analysis of Brett Favre...

The New England Patriots (sans QB Tom Brady) travel to the Meadowlands to face QB Brett Favre and the New York Jets Sunday (CBS). Here are a few thoughts Patriots' Coach Belicheat had on Favre. Candid and honest, to say the least.

I meant that the coach's assessment - it's honest, and accurate. Not the coach.

Belichick said. “You never want to relax anywhere but Brett is the type of player that can take the ball from one side of the field and in a split second, turn around, whip it somewhere else and put it right on the money – just like he did against the Giants when he hit [Jerricho] Cotchery down the sideline for a 50 yard touchdown, where he looked off the safeties."

“You don’t really want to guess with Brett. You’ve got to react to him. When he starts to do something, if you think, ‘this is what he’s going to do’ [and] then he switches it – you are out of position and you’re really in trouble. He does a good job of reading what the defense is seeing and reacting away from it."

"If you over react to him, it’s almost the worst thing you can...He can stay on his feet and buy extra time in the passing game and that puts most stress on your coverage at all levels...He can scramble and run if he needs to..."

Another NFL-player/felon-in-the-making...Joey Porter.

Ex-Steeler and now Dolphin Joey Porter has apparently been flapping his mouth about how Favre is like any other QB and that as long as he (Favre) is wearing a number, he's fair game to get hit (Porter's a linebacker). Obviously, a retort to the hero worship and kudos given to Favre by the media, fans and players.

I love it when NFL players flap their jaws about what they're going to do top players on the field. Isn't that their job? I mean, I don't traipse into work Monday mornings and start ranting about, "I'm gonna make the coffee and answer some phone and distribute faxes and mail and fill the dishwasher...".

Have you ever read Joey's bio on Wikipedia? Scroll down to the "altercation" list. This guy's begging to be put in San Quentin.

Did I mention that I despise the media? Course I did.

If you've read this blog, your quite aware of my disdain for the media, in general. I have many reasons, some of which are rooted in Green Bay Packer football, Brett Favre and the fact that I was editor of my high school newspaper and majored in Journalism in college and generally think reporters suck.

Without going into too much rhetoric and ranting, check out this statement which appeared in a column by Ben Smith, who covers sports for the Fort Wayne, Indiana area. The gist of his article was that, although he likes Brett Favre, he feels he won't make a difference for the New York Jets this season. Fine. I think the Jets will go at least 10-6 and win a playoff berth (I don't make predictions for the very reason I'm about to illustrate so ignore that statement...THOUGH I'm allowed to make predictions regarding the teams I root for, which is the Jets and NOT the Packers this season).

Ben's statement : "And it ends the same way it ended for Joe Namath with the Rams, or, best case, Joe Montana with the Chiefs." (Namath sucked with the Rams and Montana took the Chiefs to the playoffs.)

As kind and wise as Ben appears to be, and yes, he looks like the sort of fellow I might hang out with, his is the type of blanket statement that boils my blood. Wow, Ben - you really walked out on a limb to make that bold prediction, didn't you? My cousin's fiance's unborn child (no, she's not pregnant) could have made that observation. Why not just say, 'Favre will either succeed or fail for the New York Jets'.

Ben...may I borrow YOUR Magic 8 Ball, please? I want to find out whether or not I'll have to use the lavatory at some point today.

Favre to start preseason game - 'Skins @ Jets.

Tomorrow (Saturday) at 7 p.m. EST on the NFL Network (check local listings). It'll be his first "start" (preseason) since joining the team - I'm anxious to see how he's adapting to the Jets' play calling system. No question it can be pretty tough to associate certain phrases or words you used for 16 years with different plays on another team. Favre' problem = he remembers every play he's ever called. There's a lot going on in that boy's head.

I'm fairly certain the Meadowlands will be a'buzz.

Madden NFL 09 on sale with Brett (as a Jet).

Madden NFL 09 is on sale now. Reviews are great. Actually, the version for sale features Brett in his Packer uni, but there's a downloadable cover of Favre in a Jets' uniform that's available.

Brett will always be a Packer. If I were purchasing this, I wouldn't bother with it (though I am supporting the Jets this year instead of the Packers).

The news even made the front page of one the entertainment trades today - The Hollywood Reporter.

Favre slowly becoming part of "Gang Green"; CBS affiliates in WI to carry Jets games.

Favre fever is taking hold of New York and New Jersey - Jets officials estimated that 4,000 people attended this past Sunday morning's practice. That was considerably less than the 10,500 that came out on Saturday. However, it was significantly larger than the average Sunday morning crowd of about 1,700. And 20,000+ Favre Jet jerseys have flown off the Internet.

As far as Jets' game broadcasts in Wisconsin, two of the 16 regular season games are being broadcast nationally. The Week 3 game at San Diego is on Monday Night Football, and the Jets' Week 11 game at New England is a Thursday night NFL Network game. The other 14 games are covered on either CBS or FOX. Affiliates in Wisconsin are required to carry the Packers whenever possible, however, CBS stations in Wisconsin are now faced with the fact that their viewers are going to want to watch Jets games. The station in Milwaukee has already said they will ask CBS to carry as many Jets games as possible. The likelihood that CBS will grant such a request is a pretty solid one.

Additionally Green Bay’s WFRV-TV, Channel 5, will air as many Jets games as possible from CBS Sports this season.

Introducing...the "Favre-tini".

New York's latest drink. I don't even drink martini's - but I'd drink this one. A smooth blend of orange juice, blue caracao and vodka. Mmmmmm. Looks like it has a hint of Packer green in it. Wait - that's just the sludge on the bottom of the glass. Salute!!

08-08-08

In all the hubbub in my life as of late, I forgot the significance of today's date. Is there a significance? The 2008 Summer Olympic opening ceremony is tonight in Beijing, China - that's significant. I'll watch the track and field and that's it. Too many questionable things going on in China - politics, human rights issues, barring athletes from participating.

I'm thinking about purchasing a Jets hat. This is what my life has been reduced to. Fucking Packers. Happy 08/08/08.
