Packers' Statement on Trading Favre to Jets.
Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy and Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson issued the following joint statement:
"Brett has had a long and storied career in Green Bay (which we're helping to destroy with one fell swoop by trading him), and the Packers owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude for everything he accomplished on the field and for the impact he made in the state (everyone else does but we don't). It is with some sadness (yeehaw - our PR debacle is over and we don't have to keep Ari Fleischer on the payroll much longer) that we make this announcement (only because we wish he would've stayed retired in the first place), but also with the desire for certainty that will allow us to move the team and organization forward in the most positive way possible.
"We respect Brett's decision that he could no longer remain here as a Packer (because we didn't want him back in the first place). But there were certain things we were not willing to do (like field the best possible team we could in having Brett start) because they were not in the best interest of the team (like we just said, we don't want to win with the best possible team on the field). We were not going to release him nor trade him to a team within the division (because we fear him as a QB but don't want him playing for the Packers). When Brett ultimately decided that he still wanted to play football, but not in Green Bay (only because we made it very clear we didn't want him back, that he could not be the starter, told him we had moved on with Aaron Rogers and offered Brett a $20 million dollar bribe to stay retired), we told him that we would work to find the best solution for all parties involved (best solution for us). We wish Brett and his family well (good riddance).
"We appreciate the tremendous passion shown by our fans (not really). We, like them, always will see Brett Favre as a Green Bay Packer (we could care less about Brett's legacy) and our respect for him will never change (fuck Brett). Moving forward, we are dedicated to delivering a successful 2008 season for all Packers fans (with our three quarterbacks who've never started an NFL game)."
Favre leaves Green Bay as the NFL's all-time leader in most major passing categories - touchdowns (442), yards (61,655), completions (5,377) and attempts (8,758) - and his 253-game starting streak intact. By playing 16 seasons in a Packers uniform (1992-2007), he matches Bart Starr (1956-71) for the longest tenure in team history among his 30 team records.
Obviously, stats that fell on the blind, deaf and mute monkeys that are current Packer management.

Hey Jeff,
Sad day in Packer Nation. HBR should do a "case study" here in "how not to manage". I'll still cheer for the Pack (and I guess, the Jets - sure glad Brett didn't end up in Vikingland - that would be too hard to take), but I predict one year from now:
- MM and TT will be out of work
- Brett will still be playing football.
