Separated at Birth? U.S. Army PFC Lawrence S. Gordon & Tom Hanks.

U.S. Army PFC Lawrence S. Gordon (top) & Tom Hanks in "Saving Private Ryan". Probably one of the best SAB's I've come up with.

Lawrence Gordon was killed while fighting during WWII. His remains will finally be brought home. Read the story here.

"Diary of a Cemeterian".

"...Great is Life, real and mystical, wherever and whoever;
Great is Death—sure as life holds all parts together, Death holds all parts together. Has Life much purport?—Ah, Death has the greatest purport."

- from Walt Whitman's "Great are the Myths"

One chapter completed in my book. There's a sort of calm associated with writing about death.

Mikaela Shiffri. USA. GOLD!

USA's Mikaela Shiffri triumphed in the women's slalom - and made history by becoming the youngest medal winner in this event. Another hot-tay from the winter olympics in Sochi.

Primitve hanger.

Saw a utility light in the garbage at work. Couldn't let it be. Cut off the extension cord and pried off the metal protector cage and now it's hanging in my kitchen.

Separated at Birth? Sven Kramer & Taylor Lautner.

Sven Kramer (top), Dutch speedskater. Sort of a dick, I'm guessing. Could be wrong. Taylor Lautner, actor. Sort of a jag. Could be wrong on that as well.

51.43 seconds?

Eric Heiden from Madison, WI was the golden boy of the 1980 Winter Olympics held in Lake Placid, NY. He won 5 gold medals...every event in speedskating. No one has accomplished that feat since. Now, the guy below is Sven Kramer of the Netherlands, who just set an Olympic record in the 5,000 meters at the winter olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Kramer's time? 6:10.76. Heiden's gold-winning time in the 5,000 meters was 7:02.29. 51.43 seconds slower than Kramer's time.

That's more than a lap distance.

Whatever. Heiden is still the king. Always will be.

Happy Birthday, Minnie!

Minnie Driver's birthday was yesterday. I had the good fortune to see her perform three times in Los Angeles in 2009 before I moved back to Wisconsin. Yeah - she sings, writes and performs guitar. One of the best voices I've had the pleasure to hear in years.
