Who's the Lions' fan?

I wanna know who this asshole is. Stumbled on this photo when Brett Favre was in the news recently talking about football concussions.

This photo was from the Minnesota Vikings @ Detroit Lions but it doesn't say the year. Favre played with Minnesota for the 2009 and 2010 season. In 2009 when the Vikings visited Detroit, the Vikes killed the Lions, 27-13. So the "old man" sign really looks like a douche bag move, douche bag.

In 2010, the Vikes visited Detroit near the end of the season when Favre was hurt and not playing. I'll give this fan the benefit of the doubt that he knew better to not hold this sign up when Favre wasn't even in the game. Therefore, I'm assuming this was the 2009 meeting when the Vikings and the "old man" kicked Detroit's ass.

This is why I never make public predictions on games. Or hold up moronic signs. Someone tell me who this guy is.

Greetings from Necedah, WI!

Fall bowhunt! Brother Jas & I. No deer pictures, sadly. That being said, we've seen deer on every drive but haven't had shots. Honestly, getting a shot and/or getting a deer is icing on the cake. The joy - for us - is to be out in the Nature that God created and enjoying each other's company. As we make drives and sit in the woods we've traversed for over 30 years, the memories of "those good ole days" come flooding back. So many guys, drives, deer, stump shooting & laughs. To those who are no longer with us (Kenny "the Kahuna", Donny) and to those who couldn't be with us, including our immediate hunting group:   Dave, Bruce, Cousin Gerry, Uncle Fran, Gary & Dad, we thought of you often and smiled.

Me talking with my hands.

Brother Jas & Zol.

Though we saw deer on every drive (which is pretty decent with just two guys), our tags were not filled. Not even a shot. What's important is we were there in fellowship - two brothers... with bows in hand, in Nature, along with every man who couldn't be there with us.

Today we honored our lifelong friend & hunting mentor, Kenny "Big Kahuna" Koepsel, who passed away last November. Brother Jas & I chose a "sacred spot" - known only to us and our fellow hunters - buried an arrow in Kenny's honor, burned a smudge stick made of Russian sage from my garden & blessed the site, read a Walt Whitman poem, spread some of Ken's ashes and toasted the life of the Big Kahuna with some port. The plan is to place something more permanent there at some point. We wanted all our guys there but we'll revisit this place with the other hunters when they're able and repeat the ceremony.

It was an emotional moment for both of us. Our group of hunters learned much from Kenny, "our leader", as my father referred to him. From this day forward, an arrow will be placed in this spot for all our fallen hunters. It's the right thing to do.

I struggle readjusting to "civilization" upon returning from the bush. This occasion is no different.

DJ Honey Wheat.

Dad & I had a few bottles of Rick Nowak's (Uncle Bob Nowak's brother - non-blood) latest craft brew, DJ Honey Wheat, yesterday during the Green Bay Packer debacle (no - still no fan but watch some games with Dad - he's a stockholder). Brewed from Dee's (D - my mother) hops and Brother Jas' (J) honey.

Bottled 10/19/13. 5.6% ABV. tasty, you betcha!

Veterans Day.

Veterans Day is today. Take a moment to remember those who served and died for our country. Those with us still - and those who have left us. That includes my father - James Anthony Ircink - who served about the USS Shangri-LA (CV-38) from 1957-61, a long-haul, Essex-class carrier, the 2nd largest in the fleet at the time. Thanks for your service, Pappy!

"..when the gales of November came early."

38 years ago today - November 10, 1975 - the SS Edmund Fitzgerald went down in Lake Superior. along with it's 29 crew members. Immortalized in film, song and books, this legend truly lives on.

Click here for Gordon Lightfoot's tribute the SS Edmund Fitzgerald (like you never heard this song?). If you'd like more information on the ship and the events surrounding it's sinking, click here.

A brotherly lecture.

(Brother Jason - left, and I in Santa Barbara. Sometimes a little tough love is warranted when it comes to your younger brother.)

7:06 a.m. Wednesday 6 November

Brother Jason,

Just got off the phone with you, Jas (I called you) - glad to hear you’re home from your hunting trip. I felt the need to write this public letter directed at you for three reasons: 1) public humiliatio
n, 2) the need for me to vent because I’m pissed off, and 3) because I love you.

When you say you plan to be home at a certain time after spending days in the bush and fail to arrive home at said time, your family is bound to worry. If you can’t get THAT through you thick head there’s no time than the present to START. I don’t want to hear, “you knew where I was” or “everyone knew when I was coming home”. That logic doesn’t pass muster. When you don’t arrive home and don’t return phone calls, it’s only natural for us to wonder, “where is he?”, “why hasn’t he returned our calls?”, “is he OK?”, etc.

I understand you were at the cabin where cell reception is iffy; however, there are places there you can go where reception is adequate for a quick call. You’ve done it before and there are no excuses. The last time I talked to you was Sunday. Your parents tried to contact you and you failed to return their calls. I called and texted you and you failed to call or text me back. I’ve been sitting at home...my life at a standstill – pacing, standing with phone in hand, terrible thoughts running through my head – since 5pm Tuesday evening. Barely slept a wink. I figured you were out of harm’s way but one never knows. You are an excellent outdoorsman. But shit happens. Things you have no control over happen. I made calls. I sent out a few emails wondering
WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON AND WHERE IS MY BROTHER?!

I realize that this is your MO. And it would be perfectly acceptable if you had only YOU to answer to. But you currently have an older brother and elderly parents who worry about their brother/son. Sorry – that’s the way it is right now. Deal with it. We would expect nothing less if the situation were reversed.

So, Brother Jas, how about a little consideration for your family? Take your head out of your ass, THINK for a second & put yourself in our shoes and please – PLEASE keep us in mind when you go traipsing off into the woods for days on end while leaving us hanging, OK, fuckhead?

Your loving brother,
Jeff

Russian sage smudge sticks.

Cut down the Russian sage today, salvaging what was left of the leafy parts of the plant to make smudge sticks. Let'em dry for a couple weeks and let the cleansing begin! What? Never heard of "smudge sticks"? Well read on, friend. Read on!

Last smudge stick outing....click here.

Here is the beginning of my post. And here is the rest of it.

cupcake.

If you found this "cupcake" in your trick or treat bag, you're outta luck. More like a rock. (See "Charlie Brown") And it's not the sort of cupcake you want any part of. Any guesses what this "cupcake" really is?
